Question about Cannondale Bearings?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Question about Cannondale Bearings?

Just got my Super Six frame today. I started to assemble the headset, etc.. The lower bearing in the head tube fits great.

The one that goes in the top of the headtube is extremely tight. I can't get it in with my hands. Does this bearing need to be pressed into the headtube? These are the bearings that came with it so they are the right size.

Thanks for those who can help.

Can anyone help me out? Does anyone have a Super Six that has put the bearings in it?

1. immediately stop assembling your bike.
2. take it to someone who knows what they're doing.

The bearings are pressed in, with a headset press. It's an interference fit. If you don't know this, I'm not sure I'd ride anything else you built.

It does not speak well for C'dale if they provided no user instructions with the frame. If the lower bearing slips in, it would make sense that the top one does too. Look at the underside of the bearing to see if it has a 45 degree chamfer that acts as a self-centering seat. If it does, then the bearing should slip in. Look for burrs or paint build-up at the top of the head tube that might be preventing the bearing from dropping in.

This owner's manual shows slip-in bearings, not press-in and makes no mention of any tools required. See page 7.

I can't speak to a Super Six, but with my Six-13 and System Six, the integrated bearings just slide in. They do not need to be pressed in.

In both frames, the lower bearing sits on the fork crown. In the Six-13, the upper bearing just sits in the frame. In the System Six, there is a black adapter that sits in the frame to reduce the diameter for the bearing, which then sits in the adapter.

I will reply to this one with a FAIL

1. I know what I'm doing. This is just my first Cannondale. Ended up being a bit of clear coat that once removed the bearing dropped right in (with no pressing).

2. See #1

Yeah, I checked for the clear coat and that was the case.
