Value of 1996 Trek 5000 OCLV?
Going in the morning to look at a 1996 Trek 5000 OCLV. Mavic Cosmic wheelset, all Ultegra (who knows what year). Assuming good-considering-10k-miles-condition, what is a fair price? I'm fairly new to road bikes and not quite sure where the price point should be. Thanks for your help!

Yeah, if you want to keep it longer, get at least a bike at least less than 5 years old. Treks are good, but you can't trust the stress that has built up on the carbon fiber. Some owners even lie about the mileage.
If i was crazy i would buy it for less than 400-500.

Mix of 105 and 600Ultegra back in the 8speed days. $1900 MSRP. Owner will probably want $600+, but I doubt I'd pay that.

Buying 14 year old carbon is putting a lot of faith in the seller. Buying 14 year old bikes can be risky anyway but imo carbon is riskier as damage may not be apparent.

Thanks for the good advice. He wanted $650 originally. Within 3 minutes of test riding it, something snapped in the rear shifter and rendered shifting inoperable. Even with that, he still only came down to $600!!! Admittedly, the frame and upgraded Mavic wheels were very nice (assuming there was no internal or hidden stressing or damage), the 10-year-old-since-upgraded Ultegra parts looked beat up. Glad I walked away (but then again, he made it easy).
All the best,
