Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Hill climbing, duh.

There's a 2/10 mile, 11% grade near my house. Long enough that you can't (or at least I can't) simply punch over it. While standing and grinding my way up, the random thought "lift your trailing leg" crossed my mind. Well it worked (I'm simply talking about light effort to pull leg up, not going for significant extra power). It was still hard going, but definitely better and smoother. And the smoother part was really helpful.

duh.

Definitely much easier than pushing back on your trailing leg.

Brickyard Road off of MacArthur Blvd, outside/west of the beltway, before you get to Old Angler's Inn and turn up the hill to Falls Road (leading to Potomac).
