Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Relationship Therapy

I've been falling out of love with my bike here lately. Bad thing.

So, I went out and ran a few miles. I don't see it as cheating but rather therapy.

I figure if I go out and do something that I really don't like and I feel miserable while doing it (running qualifies on both counts); I'll re-learn to appreciate the virtues of my Italian dressed Tennessee born hottie all over again and love her even more.

Thoughts?

Seriously...IMO a break here and there is the best way to prevent burnout and overtraining.

No, I wore a Speedo. Much more modest than Tri-shorts.

btw, anyone know a good place to get one of those stock "this thread is worthless" pics, and while we are at it, stock "this thread has got legs" pics

I call it winter... most of the bikes get stored so when I finally get to pull them out and ride the love affair starts anew.

We had a bit of a heat wave here last week so I decided to take my touring bike down to my shop for a little work... she has been my hardest working and longest serving bike and I realized I may have taken her for granted.

Having more than a few bikes helps too... unlike women they don't mind if you spend some time riding another bike.

I suggest buying her something nice. I was recently falling out of love with my bike but I just bought a pair of crud road racers and a new chain to rekindle the fire.

What is this thing of which you speak?

I do need to put a few miles on some of the others but think I'll emphasize the running for a month or so. By then I'll be thoroughly fed up with it and love will blossom anew.

Taking a break sounds like just the thing to do. When that warm spring weather finally arrives, you may be chomping at the bit again. For me, I rotate through my various bikes. That keeps the variety level high and encourages me to get out and ride when I find myself making excuses.

I can see why she's shy. You should give that bar tape and saddle some love. Actually just throw them out and get some new ones !

Is that yellow saddle a Brook? I didn't know they came in colors other than brown and black.

San Marco Regal. They come in a bunch of colors.

Yellow tape and clean tape do not co-exist.
