Weekend Rides/Exercise 29Jan10 - 31Jan10
It's the weekend already!! What are you planning to do in the way of cycling and/or other exercise this weekend?
This afternoon (Friday) I got out for a 50.5 km ride ... the first half was into a heavy headwind, but the return half was great with a wonderful tailwind!! That's the third 50+ km bicycle ride I've done this week.

No cycling this weekend. Going away with my family for the weekend up to their property. Though I will be doing alot of bushwalking and tree chopping (chain sawing), should be good to get away for a few days.
Machka, you will be proud of me. I have joined an organised 200km brevet on Sunday week (7th Feb). I've been trying to get over the 100km, but just can't (not enough HTFUing).
Well riding with this group will sort me out. Watch out in a week and a bit for a report of my first 200km yay.
Hopefully it doesn't flare up my calf strain I've been having from running (and I've got a 25km run race on the 21st of Feb, heal damn calf, heal!!).
With all this riding your doing Machka, I might just see you out one day (you'll ride all the way to Sydney)

It's going to be cold Sat (10f - 20f) so a short ride in the afternoon if I can escape the family. "Warm" on Sunday (20f - 30f) so maybe a 2-3 hour ride in the morning.

Saturday I would've road a 120 Mile ride along a route i planned. Sunday I might ride 60-70 Miles along the first half of my century route. Unfortunately, the weather here in San Francisco has scattered showers and unpredicted rain.

I was thinking of checking out an LBS's group ride for the first time, but was feeling tired so decided to ride up the biggest mountain in the area by myself. 78 km round trip. Got a nasty headwind on the last 10 km stretch, but got lucky and ran into the group I was thinking of riding with and got a nice pull home. 1020 km this month... I'm beat. No Sunday ride because I'm going to Tokyo for 3 days starting tomorrow.

I got home Friday evening a tad late, it was cold, so I stayed in....should have rode anyway.
Last Saturday, I rode the regular bike shop route. Only one other guy was there due to threat of rain, but we saw probably 50 other riders on fast group rides. Today, I rode by myself, and saw zero other riders. When the going gets tough, the tough sleep in.

Rowan and I drove out to Portland where we had lunch, then got out our bicycles and rode to Cape Bridgewater and back - 47 km. It was a day full of beautiful scenery, and a lot of wind!

I don't think I'm getting my share of global warming. I'm not even sure I will be able to get the car out of the driveway. I guess I'll be heading to the garage to ride the trainer.

Yesterday morning, met up with the B group from the LBS. It's a 34 mile ride and we're typically back in 2 hours. A new girl showed up with a Cannondale that looked like it was set up for triathlons so I figured the ride was going to be pretty speedy. That would work well because I needed to go to the store after the ride and then be home and showered before our guests arrived at noon. Except the triathlon girl said she hadn't been riding for two years. We took 15 minutes longer to get to our turnaround point than the previous weekend. On the way back, we went a different route with which I was unfamiliar... and one of the other guys got a flat. He didn't have much experience changing a flat and didn't want much in the way of help. Ended up getting some, anyway, after the tire had to be removed a second time because it wasn't inflating correctly. By the time we got back, it was three and a half hours from the time we left. Lots of heavy traffic during a two mile stretch. Not sure how many more times I'll do that group ride. It wasn't the slow rider or the flat, really, but the heavy traffic on the two lane road with inconsiderate and risky drivers.

This morning went for a ride. took us 18 minutes to ride up south mountain, came down, went back up, thought it would take us less, took us 26 minutes....came back home. My legs hurt, dont know why.....they're sore for a change....then again, i never rode up that mountain twice.

Did a nice little hour and a half ride yesterday. The valley was way too smoggy to ride down into, so I explored a few of the neighborhoods up high. I did get lost at one point though, I kept trying to go down and streets kept turning up just out of sight. Good ride though.

Did two rides this weekend. First ride was a mellow 35 mile ride, out to Lake Lopez. The second ride was 65 mile ride from san luis obispo to santa maria and back. Total 100 miles

Four or five inches of snow and ice. Just stopped last night. I spent the morning shoveling snow and ice. The afternoon on Advil. I forgot about my lower back. Dang. I hope it's better by Saturday for our next weekend ride.
Oh, Machka, guess who the new ride leader is for our winter rides? I forgot to step back when they asked for a volunteer.

I hate this time of year.
No, I hate reading ride reports from people who live in warm weather climates while I'm, for the most part, stuck training inside. (I feel bad for the earlier poster from Arlington Tx who had to deal with that puddle in the middle of the road).
For the entire month of January I have 2 rides outside, 47 miles and 30 miles.
This weekend has pretty much summed up my month of January.
Saturday: 30 minute gym workout (I've finally figured out how to get more out of the gym with less time)
and then 110 minutes on the rollers.
Sunday: 80 minutes on the rollers.
At least the days are getting longer, I hope to double my outdoor time in February.

Planned a 65 miler, but the wind was brutal today and completely on our face on the way out. Not to mention it was drizzling and cool. So, we made it a 40 miler instead. It was taking everything to stay at 17-19 MPH, especially when taking turns at the front. The come back was nice though as it was effortlessly 28-30 mph the entire time!
