Climbing on my new Roubaix S-Works
Went on my first real climb on the new bike (Lookout Mountain in Golden, CO). It was its maiden voyage. This one is a 2009 S-Works with a compact double. What an improvement over my 2004/5 Roubaix Comp. It is way stiffer in the BB and climbs light. There is still enough cush in the rear stays and the balance is really nice.
Sharp switchbacks, fast flats, fast swepers were all eaten up. It does have a slacker headangle so in really tight stuff, I countersteer once in a while to tighten the line but I'm not the best handler- I'm still pretty new to this . I have never descended this fast and felt so safe. My buddy is an experienced descender and roadie and I kept him in sight (30 yards) all the way down. I love this bike and it makes me smile. I'm no Cat anything but I feel fast and happy. This may have been my most enjoyable road ride yet.
My next goal- just make the legs stronger and stand to climb so I can push a higher gear when needed.
