Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My first build.............In 2010

Figured this was a good start for a new roadbike. Wanted one with slightly less reach and a li'll
more compliant than my Airborne.....Which means I can pick from 99% of the frames out there

We all know..Flames are the new black......uh.....

Well...In fact there is a frame at my U.S. forwarding address just now...And bars.
I do have some crappy pics, but pics are half the fun, so I'll shoot some new ones
when i get the stuff to Norway.

This will be an all American bike. From top to toe.......

lol. do you really think any of those things are made in the USA? or do you have some sort of jingoistic sentiment for us based companies that are now global corporations.

Side note - which forwarding company do you use that has reasonable rates for bike-sized frames? I used Bongo and the f**kers wanted $610 to ship my Ridley to Asia (that was for a full sized bike box, not just a frame box but still).

I think you spend more on shipping your Ridley than I spent on my bike, though those Damocles are sweet bikes.

Nah, I ended up having the bike sent back to CC and having them forward it on to me. Paying $60 extra for the return shipping ended up saving me a fair bit of cash for a bunch of reasons (not just in shipping but aalso in customs, etc), so it worked out.

But now I am in love with carbon. I have an Al BMC in my other domicile, and I am really tempted to get a carbon frame for there as I am really getting beaten up by the chip-seal roads on long rides.

I take it you picked up the R7's before they closed up shop? My R7 heel pad decided to finally fall apart only after they stopped answering their phones. I now carefully apply an eliptical layer of Shoe Goo about once a month. It works, but I'm sad that they stopped operating.

I use Bongo my-selves, and to me the prices seems reasonable.
Some intl.shippers (shops) charge $250 for a frameset. 610 is insane!!!
I would probably go to another then and have'em ship domestic instead.

Anyways. For the frameset and a few other items is estimated to bee around $70.
Doesn't sound quite right, but they also say I save $312 on shipping???
200-250 would be my guess when I calculate from volume. Unless they
should be very generous with a new HUGE box.

Same package to chine, they claim just about $30 more.
How big was that box of yours?

Ah, but you're getting it shipped to Noria, I am getting it shipped to India. It was a regular bike box, and got charged at volume rates. Not to de-rail this thread, but I'm thinking of switching to USAMail1.com -> their rates are around 20% cheaper, and their monthly fees are also $10 as opposed to $15. Might be worth it for you to check them out also.

As you can see, this is all leading up to me shooting my wad on yet another bike.

The plan was to take all the mech from the roadbike over to this and purchase some 2009 Ultegra/105 groupo
for that one, but this turned out just as cheap (or expensive). Shaved of some weight too, brifters being some
120g lighter than DA. A win win situation.

Nice. How do you like the Speedplays? Any positive gain opposed to SPD-SL?
