Pulled The Trigger On a BMC Road Racer SL 01

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Pulled The Trigger On a BMC Road Racer SL 01

I've been in love with this bike since i started riding early last year but never had the funds for it but this close out on competitive cyclist has been calling my name for weeks, and orange is my favorite color so i finally convinced myself to do it.

I've been riding a bikes direct windsor fens since about june and have put a bit under 3,000 miles on it and have loved it but wanted something with a taller head tube since i had an insane drop on this one and i hate the way it looks flipped. The bike has 105 sti's, rear derailleur, and cassette. i upgraded to an ultegra SL crankset and ultegra SL front derailleur from the triple it came with. Still has the tektro brakes but this is miami, and great brakes don't make much of a difference.

I'll be swapping all these parts onto the BMC, which should leave me with a pretty good bike for the total money spent, I cant wait!! now i just need some nice wheels to put on it... /sigh it never ends.

i'll post a ton of picks of the bike and build up when it arrives!

edit: pictures!

edit number 2 - first ride
took it out for a short ride with a friend through some really crappy roads. this thing is SMOOTH. i've always heard the BMCs are harsh but this felt great to me, no road buzz and very comfortable compared to my old all aluminum bikes direct windsor fens. Tomorrow i'm going to try to get it out on a proper group ride and see how i feel about it after 60 or 70 miles, some climbs and some sprints. and by climbs i mean a bridge, this is miami after all.

I'm sure you'll love it, I love my Streetfire. I've since changed the 73 degree stem and got the 84 degree which I placed a little lower and it feels perfect.

+1

I'm not even near impressed with my Tiagra brakes. Can't imagine how crappy these Tektro's must be.

Though, send me your 105 gear for free

Do love these BMC's.

i know they do, but with a good set of brake pads in mine, i've never felt like i've had inadequate braking even in emergency braking situations in group rides. i'm sure a better set will feel better but at this point i don't know what i'm missing and i plan to keep it that way for a bit longer.

I've looked at that CC deal for the last week trying my hardest not to press the buy button.

If I hadn't started budget building up my old alloy frame I would have.

As a fellow flatlander I concur. Brakes are low priority. Good brake pads are high priority.

You'll love the bmc, I love both of mine.

It's been hard as hell not to pull the trigger on the Team Master on CC. It's still a lot of money, but you'll be hard pressed to find a deal like that anytime soon. This is when I need will power the most.

Also looking at the team machine....trying to figure out my size though. I'm 5'8", currently ride a "52". THey recommended I go with the 47 (52 effective top tube)...seems a little weird to go with the smallest size though. Do they really run that big?

I'm excited for you! I want a BMC...the Junior bike team i wanna join is sponsored by BMC, and their photos show most of them on a BMC, i think a racemaster. I'm not sure if they get it for free though...

Yes they do. I'm 5'10, ride a 55cm frame usually, and I'm riding a 51cm Pro Machine with a 90cm stem and zero setback seatpost. They suckers run quite large given the numbers in the geometry charts.

now i'm getting scared. I'm 5'11 almost 6 ft and decided on the 56.5cm top tube with my fitter because my current bike is a 56cm top tube. we figured it would be perfect since the head tube is about 4cm taller and half a degree more slack. this would be the 49.5 cm C-C seat tube or 52 c-t or as BMC calls it, the large.

Dont worry you got the right size. I am 6 ft as well and my streetfire above is a L with a 56.5 TT. The streetfire and road racer have almost identical geometry
