Contador going with Specialized
Was just reading this news and quite frankly it seems like a bunch of bull to me. Contador saying that to win the Tour De France he needs the best bike. Didn't he just win it last year on a Trek ? Anyway, I'm pretty sure this has to be because of Mr. Cycling being a sore looser and leaving the Astana team, and taking the Trek brand with him. I guess Trek is now synonym to LA.
What I find funniest is how they make it out as if this was Alberto Contador's decision when it is most likely a management decision. And a need to get some bikes for the Astana team now that Trek is gone. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think a Specialized bike has never won TDF right ? They have to be desperate...
The news article I'm referring to is here.

okay, he's saying he needs the best bike because that's what you do when a sponsor is providing you with several hundred thousand dollars worth of goods.
they make it out to be contador's decision because they are selling contador's image. the image that he chooses Specialized because he thinks riding a Specialized is the best way to win a tour de france - that is a desirable image.
this is not BS, it's marketing. they're similar, just pronounced slightly differently.

If for some reason Trek pulled their sponsorship Lance would be singing the praises of whatever RadioShack started riding.
Mario Cipollini once claimed that "Cannondales make best bike." Later he thought Specialized did.
Hincapie thinks the world of his new bike too and he used to ride Trek.

Man, if you don't like Alberto Contador because of that, just wait until you hear about his toilet paper preference. He uses Cottonelle instead of Charmin, even though Cottonelle has never won in a head to head competition vs Charmin. It's a bunch of marketing BS. What a jerk.

Clearly, it's all about the sponsor.
And bikes don't win races, bicyclists win races.

I can't help wondering......
Do any of the people posting in this thread actually ride bikes??
Maybe pay attention to the news, from time to time?
Maybe actually have any idea what bike racing actually is??
This is truly one of the stupidest threads yet.
As to the poster who said " can spring/summer please get here" --- + 1 million.
Oh yeah ( I NEVER thought I'd say this ) - Botto's right.

What's worse - posting an article or spending several posts lamenting about how useless that article is? And this thread is really stupider than 50 pathetic parody threads that pass for humor? Really?

I've taken to simply ignoring those, easier to do based on the titles.

In the 1st video he says "It is considerably lighter than my previous bike"
In the 2nd, he says "we've gotten to the point that all bikes have practically reached the weight limit"
Ok, all riders will be a shill for their sponsor - its their job. But duh Alberto, your Trek and new Specialized are both at UCI minimum. Talking in general about liking the handling, weight, feel is good, lying is just bad PR.
Specialized aren't doing themselves any favors letting this guy spew nonsense just for the sake of saying something about the bike. Some athletes are good speakers for their team/sponsors, but most others need to keep quiet and do their job. Specialized should just let him ride and win on the bike and keep him quiet; that will sell lots of bikes.
So I guess in the spirit of this thread, we can also re-state the news that Lance has gone to LOOK Keo pedals (Keo Blade) after being the sole Shimano holdout last year. Lets see if LOOK can get Lance to make a comment on them.
