Shoe sets
How many sets of biking shoes do you have? Have you purchased more than one pair of the exact same set of shoes?
I have a pair that fit extremely well. Full carbon sole. And am thinking of getting a second set while I can still find them. (They are 08/09 version). Just wondering on everyone's thoughts.

I just recently got my second pair of shoes. The Scattante Venetos.
Old shoes got turned into spin class shoes. I haven't had a chance to ride the new ones, though I'm deathly afraid I made a bad purchase

I've got 3. Ancient Paramount road shoes from 1987, 5 year old Diadoras, and some Diadora MTB shoes I got just this fall. The Paramounts are due for another round of shoe goo and duct tape. They fit perfectly but I I've ridden them apart again on the trainer.

5:
Pair number 1 was LG touring shoes that were a size too big and never worked that well.
Pair number 2 were some low end Lake MTN shoes that were a little too narrow in the toe
Pair number 3 are Northwave Vertigo road shoes. Fit nicely, but a very flat footbed has me wanting to experiment with a metatarsal pad.
Pair number 4 are Northwave Lizards, which unsurprisingly, fit exactly like the Vertigos, as they're essentially the same shoe, except this one with tread and a SPD bolt pattern.
Pair number 5 are Bontrager Race MTB shoes which I picked up because they were so darn cheap, and look less obnoxious than my camouflage NW mtn shoes.
I really should chuck pairs 1 and 2. Or donate them, or pass them along somehow.
With my wide feet I have avoided trying on any 'mega' width Sidis as that could become expensive.

2 pairs, one are Sidi Genius 5.5 for the spring/summer/fall and the other pair are Shimano winter shoes for the late fall/winter.

Ummm ... I've been up to 5 pairs of shoes, but I might have gotten rid of one pair.
The two pair of road shoes were identical. I bought the first pair, loved them, and bought the second while the sale is still on. I wore one pair out, and may have tossed them.
The three pair of mtn bike shoes were identical brands, but different sizes. The first pair just fit me, and had blue trim. The second pair, a couple years later, were a size larger which worked better and they had changed them to a red trim. The third pair, a couple years later, were a size larger again but still had the red trim. I still have all three pair.

3 now...new pair of Northwave Aerlite's, old,10+years, pair of Northwave Elites...the yellow ones, very old pair of Sidis that I use for winter shoes.
Most owned at one time: Over 10 when actively racing...3 or 4 pair of road racing shoes...rain race shoes that I did not care about, spring/fall shoes for cooler weather, cold weather shoes and my Northwave Elites...road shoes were either Sidi's or the Elites. Several pair of Cross shoes...crap weather shoes and my best shoes. Several pair of MTB shoes. Again crap condition shoes and my best shoes.
My crap condition shoes were best shoes that were worn but still serviceable and relegated to crap condition shoes as I got new shoes for the new season.
My very first shoes were Diadoras with wooden soles to which you "nailed" the cleats...toe clips and straps. Wish I still had them for memories sake...they were cool.

Three pairs:
Sidis;
Fortes (back up pair);
and some SPDs, which are rarely used.

I have the same question as you. I purchased a pair of Shimano SH130's in 2006 that fit like a glove. However the my arches feet always hurt when I got off the bike too fast in cold weather. The buckles also do not work as smoothly as when they were new. Last summer, 2009, I found a pair of 2006 Diadora Speedracer Road on closeout for $127, size 43.5, and they fit great, have good ventilation, and have a smooth, solid buckle. I got white shoes with red accents that go great with my bike and clothes.
I just became aware that Bike Nashbar has 2006 black Speedracer's, and current year Speedracer's, all colors, and Speedracer Carbon's, black only, on sale for $84.99. 89.99, and 99.99 respectively. Coupon code BEK10 gets you an additional 10% off.
I purchased some winter specific boots so I am using the Shimano's on the trainer. Buying another pair of Diadora's would only be for the purpose of having an additional pair that I know fits after the current ones wear out. I don't know if it is worth it or if I might want to get some heat moldable or customs when the present Diadora's wear out. I have to decide by this evening. Any thoughts?

2, a pair of Shimano R310s for the road bike (SPD-SL) and a pair of Shimano R086L's for the hybrid (SPD), though I am eyeing a pair of Sidi 5.5's. My 310s are pretty torn up from last summer.

4, Vittorias, Specialized, Sidi, Shimano.
If you have a pair that fit extremely well, and others don't, getting a second pair of the excellent-fit one may be worthwhile. Risk is that if Lorica, plasticizer may age, leather may be more age-resistant if you treat use a shoe creme periodically during storage period

2nd pair is on order. Will be buying a 3rd this year. 2nd are carbon soles, nice shoes. The 3rd will by for cross, and my current shoes are "touring" shoes.
Don't see any reason to have multiple pairs of the same shoe. They seem pretty rugged.
