Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Once in a life time opportunity! Revisited!

Last week I posted a "Once in a lifetime Opportunity......" and gave a ride report. Well, I had another opportunity to ride with the Austrian National Olympic Triathlon Team.

This one promised to be more my speed. Last week the ride was billed as a 18-22 mph "recovery ride" for the atheletes, to the beach an back (50 mi.) I can do that. As it Turned out the resulting "hammer fest" was more that some of the girls had bargained for, and while they hung on, the kinda "broke training." The coach wasn't happy.

This time their coach took out 2 of the guys to work them hard for 2 hours on a quiet loop up north of town. We had 4 members of the team that wanted to go out for a true 4 hour "recovery ride." The pace was again to be 18 - 22. Indeed, we kept it at about 20, that's a pace I can keep up with all day. I was looking to "hang on" the whole ride.

Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate and we ended up doing about 4 miles in a downpour. We all went to Starbuck (they feel very "at home" there as Starbucks is popular in Austria.) After about 25 min we went out again for about another 45 min. They decided to head back, so I decided to bid them "auf Wiedersehen" and do some heart rate intervals before I went home. Hopefully we'll have an opportunity to get out again with them next week for a nice long leasurly ride!

BTW, I became the unofficial "Team Opa"

Here's the trip report. I didn't include the hr intervals.
