Euro sizing chart for bibs and shorts

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Every brand is going to be different, you would get more useful answers if you asked for the sizing chart for the brand of bibs/shorts you were interested in.

Hey UMD
I know what you mean by specifying the brand, but in this case there isn't one.
All that is specified is Euro 4 sizing.

A general rule of thumb is Euro Medium or Size 3 is going to fit like a USA size small. But this varies by manufacturer and even within lines of companies on fit.

Just because you don't know the brand doesn't mean there isn't one. The rule of thumb specified above should get you close enough.

This brings up the question, why don't you know the brand? Is this a team order or something?

Good rule of thumb, indeed, thanks.

I've requested the brand, i'll post it here when I get it. Thanks for your input.

All I know is that I'm swimming in my large Craft jersey, despite Craft supposedly using Euro sizing. My medium Cannondale jersey fits my significantly better. I wear a medium t-shirt.

Edit: aaaaaand you asked about bibs and shorts, not jerseys.

And on some of my jerseys, I look like an outside round pot roast.

Before a long ride...

After a long ride...

It sure would be nice to standardize this fitting business, but most likely not possible.

think of it this way: europeans aren't as fat as your typical american, meaning they don't bother with vanity sizing. meaning they don't label kit one size larger than they are.

And as a warning- Not all of us are as tall and skinny as the Italians. My LBS carries its own brand of clothing but it is made in Italy. If you are carrying a bit of weight- then go a size larger and put up with the long sleeves on the jerseys. Or on the shorts- put up with the very snug waistband---Why do you think experienced riders over here wear bibs?

From my perspective, it falls with the consuming of goods in general, ie. houses, cars, bikes(!), saunas, summer homes, 5 tvs in one home, if it's available, we'll buy it, and so on.
Food is approached the same way; if I can buy it, I'll eat it. Another example is allowing McDonalds to be the official restaurant of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games. The shame.

I don't think Italians are that tall. Craft sizes closer to American than Italian brands. Most of the mfrs have sizing charts available, and many of the online dealers post the size charts.

Once you find a brand, or a few, that you like, you can dial in the sizes. Or if you live in a great cycling city, you can try them on.

If the sizing charts indicate you are in the border zone between sizes, going up will exert less stress on the seams, going down will be nice if you project losing weight. Sometimes, you might want to go with both sizes, one for earlier in the season to take the weight off, the other for later, if you are the kind of person who tends to put on weight in the winter, and lose it over the spring and summer. Good quality stuff will last you 2-4 years, so having two sizes isn't a waste of money.

On brands, I like reallly Assos, Craft, DeMarchi (high-line, not lower line) and GBW (high-to-midline). Santini, okay, but not so durable as I want. PI doesn't work for me at all, too rough a pad for my butt. Assos/Cytech proprietary EIT pads are really nicely designed, available in many brands, available in different models for long-duration training rides to racing.

Continuing along the lines of what Eclectus said, you may be between sizes in various different ways. For Voler, by waist size I would be a small but I need mediums to fit my legs properly. For PI I think I was an extra small
