Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

That is a healthy amount of drop. I like how low the horns are.

Are you looking for a different Crank? I don't know of to many peoples running triples on TT bikes.

Quick story behind that... that Tiagra crank is a left over from my Caad9. The only deal I could score on a near complete Ultegra SL group (sans crank and sti) came with a braze-on triple. The SL group was meant for my Y-foil. At the last minute though (with the help of some BFers) I realized I had 2 Dura Ace 7800 double shifters and not a triple 7800/7801. Since the Tri bike has a friction front (DA79) I decided the best way to save some money from buying another crank or another left DA shifter was to just put the triple front d and crank that was meant for the Y-foil on the Tri and the double front d and R700 crank on the Y-foil... Maybe down the road I'll switch out back to a double, but I kinda like the granny gear a triple is more of a pain though to maintain...

2003/04 Scattante w/ Shimano 105. All aluminum frame. Alex 330 wheels. Only changes were the selle italia flight saddle and rear wheel was replaced because I tore the spoke out of the rim (I'm too strong I guess).

How did you remove the stickers? Mine seem like they are clear coated on. I have the 660 aluminium though.

I believe that only the Ti Scattante frames come with removeable decals.... too bad eh?

My 2008 CRF Comp. I only ride it when I want the illusion of going fast. I'm older and ride just as much on my steel bikes or on my mountain bike. I have really enjoyed this one and got a great deal in the early Summer of 2009. Its been fun to ride on occasion. PG

Found an Easton EC90 on ebay. It does change the feel of the bike a good bit and took off a bit more than 1/2 a pound.

The wife's bike looks just dandy with the old one.

Wow, nice seeing so many other Scattante owners.

I need help! I have a Scattante CFR Race that I'd to tastefully dress up some. Picture is below. Only thing I've done so far is put on anodized red pedals. I'm considering the following:

New Bar Tape: Red, White, Red & Black, Red & White, or White&Black?
New Seat: Red, White, Red & Black, Red & White, or White&Black?
New Tires: Red stripe?

Any ideas on what might look best? I'm open to all suggestions and loosing interest in the bike being all black.

Sorry its not of the drivetrain side!!!

Another picture I tried to photoshop (my skills stink...)

Please provide suggestions!

my bike was basically all black so i decided to make the things that are "traditionally" black, and make them red: saddle, cable housing, brake hoods, and tires. i will try and get an updated picture with the red hoods. it currently looks a little out of balance but i plan on getting red gp4000 tires next time (the current red stripe gets lost)

edit:
here is a crappy cell phone picture after i got the first hood on:

I just finished building up an XRL TT bike. Had its first race this weekend (I managed 22:39 for a 16k course). For the price I paid I'm very pleased with the outcome.

I will snap some pictures tonight or tomorrow if it ever stops raining.

Get a new fork and save some weight. Something with a 3k or 12k weave finish works nicely.

Thanks for the help guys.

Thirdgenbird, what kind of tires are those? I'm digging the red accent stripe. Also, those red hoods look better than I thought they would.

LaSarthe, I'd love a new fork w/ carbon steerer to shed the weight, but I'm on a limited budget as of now. That, and new wheels, are definitely upgrades I have planned.

Better photoshop skill would be nice....

michelin krylon carbons on the geared bike

bontrager race lites on the fixed bike

i got both of them at a very good price. i would say they are both good tires but at full msrp there are probably better options. i think my next set will be from veloflex or continental.

here's my new (to me) hot rod. it's my first road bike. i bought it off Craig's List. i haven't been able to find too much info on it. it has full Ultegra component's, had aero bars ( i didn't like them so i took them off) and a computer on it so i figured i couldn't really go wrong. all it needed was fresh tires and a good cleaning..

I've had this bike for a year now and 4000miles. Only things I changed out were the handlebars (carbon), seat and wheels (Mavic Aksium). I love the bike.
