Looking for rides east of Portland Oregon
Howdy,
I know there are some Portland area folks around here..... I am meeting a buddy in PDX in a few weeks and he wants to do a 40-60ish mile loop ride in the Mt Hood area or along the Columbia Gorge. Or somewhere in that area. Any ideas I should check out?

It's south of Portland, not east, but the 3 Capes scenic loop is fantastic. Starts at Cape Kiwanda. Park there, and there's a nice microbrewery with an ocean view for after the ride.

He's mostly right. Its a great loop and the Pelican is a wonderful place for a beer and a meal, but it's a good 90+ minutes west by southwest in a car to get there from downtown PDX.

You'll get more hits on the PacNW thread, here.
Or here.
The Columbia River Gorge, between Portland and Hood River, is an excellent ride.

You can also combine them pretty easily.

Crown point's the classic. I recommend going at least as far as Multnomah falls though, if you don't mind the climb back out. From Troutdale its not a long ride, maybe 40 miles. You can bump it to 60 plus by starting in Portland proper, but you have to ride through the bubrs. You can also cross over to the Washington side and ride there, pretty nice as well.
Bull run is alright too. If you just need something you can fit in an afternoon one day, you can ride up and do skyline.
