Road shoes: colour taboo?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Road shoes: colour taboo?

Hi, I've been looking around for a while now to get a new pair of road shoes. I currently have a set of Louis Garneau with the carbon sole and ratchet. They're... ok, but I'm looking for an upgrade. I'm pretty much settled on either the SIDI ergo 2 lights or the S works bg ones. The question I have is if I got the SIDI ones I'd go for the "red vernice" colour which is quite loud... would I officially be a wanker if I wore these shoes?

Get them.

You are a "wanker" (and this is even more so if you are not from the UK) with or without the shoes.

I have the Bettini gold ones--they were significantly cheaper than black, probably for a reason--even though they say "Olympic Games Champion" on them. It won't change my feelings when I get dropped every Sunday.

I don't think so. You could be just as easily be categorized by some detractors as a bugger.

Do you really need approval from the BF members on what shoes you should wear? I couldn't care less what shoes anyone else wears other then myself.

I'm sure there is a dance floor somewhere in Palm Springs where they would be perfectly acceptable.

Any particular Fred could also be a wanker, but not all wankers are Freds.

Just remember that if you get those shoes you'll have to colour co-ordinate with your dress and wicker basket. Punk.

wanker |ˈwa ng kər|
noun Brit., vulgar slang
a person who masturbates (used as a term of abuse).

BTW; there is a mountain in Germany named Mount Wank.
I guess people who live there, are all wankers.

No, no. It wasn't meant as an insult.
It's that brits, aussies and kiwis are mostly the ones that use that term.

When I raced in college (in the US), we used to call riders who didn't seem to know what they were doing "wankers." That chainring grease tattoo on the calf we called a "wanker mark." I have no idea how this got started.

It's not so much the color, it's the Hello Kitty theme.
