Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

New Carbon Bikes Under $4000 - Poll

My beloved Cervelo RS with Dura Ace was stolen last weekend and I'm desperate to replace it. I'm looking at comparable carbon bikes that will land under $4000. Here's what I've come up with:

Trek Madone 5.5

Cannondale SuperSix 3

Cervelo R3 (Ultegra 6700)

Felt F3

Are there any I'm missing that should be on this list (New Carbon Bikes Under $4000)? Which would you choose?

If your Cervelo was so beloved why don't you buy another? I know that if (god forbid) something were to happen to my Ridley Noah I'd get another in a heart beat.

I'm sure by "best" he meant "which will I have the highest average speed on".

Anyways, I second the Felt AR4...it's one sexy looking bike.

Aerocat. They are my team's bike sponsor and we have hooked up a few already and I have to say I am impressed.

I have some pictures of them on my blog on my site.

(with some PSIMET wheels like this one has of course....)

I really like the Bianchi Infinito Ultegra 6700 for 3K. Can't go to wrong with a Madone either, just more expensive.

I'm a fan of the Specialized Tarmac. While I have the Comp (105s), $4000 should get you the Pro (Red or Dura-Ace)...

Off topic, but I'm still amazed at the price differential between the Cervelo P2 and the Cervelo S2. The P2 is a time-trial bike so it naturally has much more limited use situations, but it has a super aero frame, and the same frame technology that the S2 gets. In fact, the P2 might even be MORE aero designed since it's a TT-bike. But look at the price difference:

2010 Cervelo P2 Ultegra $2800 (TT bike)
2010 Cervelo S2 Ultegra $4000 (road bike)

That's a crazy big difference for bikes with pretty much similar technology.

I saw some of these for the first time a couple of weeks ago at the Depauw Road Race a couple of weeks ago. Lindsey Wilson College is using them. They had a really nice rack they were all hanging on, worked great until the wind came along and blew the whole contraption over. I almost cried.

Maybe you should compare frame only prices?

+1 for buying another Cervelo RS if you like it so much, other option not mentioned would be the Look 566, which is a plush bike just like the RS. I love mine!!

Thanks everyone for the great answers: now I have a whole bunch of new bikes to research! A couple of folks asked why not another RS? Partially because my old RS had Dura Ace (and they don't come that way anymore), and partially because I feel like I should try to find the positive in the situation: it's an opportunity to try something new.

P2 frame: $2000

S2 frame: $3100

Yes, I know you can get last year's S2 frames for around $2000, but you can also get last year's P2 frames for far less than that. So the point still remains: the S2 is way overpriced compared to the P2. Supply and demand.

I'm a big Giant fan, but I've got to admit, some of the deals that freinds have found on Fuji bikes and Scott bikes are outstanding. I'd look at those two brands to see what's offered in your price range.
