Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Zipp 303 - 3-5 years old

I was in a LBS today and I saw a set of zipp 303's for $250 and wanted to buy them, but was a bit hesitant.

The wheels looked in decent shape but showed signs of wear, mostly scuffs and some dirt.

Would you buy used wheels from a LBS?

Maybe, killer deal - I'm sure they would sell for a lot more on ebay.

Is there a specific question I should ask about the hub servicing?

never needed to have my hubs serviced as none of my wheels have over 5k miles on them. usually, it's a yearly thing if you ride quite a bit. that said, i think this gives a good treatise on free hub service & at least you can ask your lbs about different things that need to be performed

Do carbon braking surfaces wear down the way aluminum rim sidewalls do over time?

I don't know, I'm asking.
