Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Hello America, England here

Hi guys!!

I guess I am right in assuming most people on the forum are from the US? So here are some photos of today's ride in the New Forest National Park (Southern England), just thought I would show you guys these photos as the only photos I have seen here are of stunning routes in California etc.

Background is I am a Canadian living in the UK (soon to be moving back to Canada) I like it here but home is MUCH nicer and much less busy Easter Bank Holiday weekend this weekend and up to 20 million cars on the roads (thats 1/3 of the population in an area the size of California all on the road at one time)! Lets just say it was interesting! I tried to pick some good backroads but even they were busier than usual, did a 40 mile training ride on the training bike today (funny that, training ride on the training bike)! pics of the bike and some of the scenery attached! Enjoy!

Just thought I would add, the Garmin edge 705 in the photos is one of the best items i have bought for cycling besides a bike!

P.S. I know I cant stop about how busy the UK is; the observant amongst you will see that the photos are deserted (I had stopped for a Pee break and took the photos after so made sure no-one was around)!!

Weird, I went for a ride in southern england today, although not as southern as that and saw hardly anyone apart from on a short section of the only A road.

Apart from that A road I think I saw more joggers than cars, and even more cyclists than that.

Nice pics though, I do like that area of the country.

Ok, so I was in a national park which is probably where most of the 20 million people on the roads over the 2 days went!

Just pointing out that the UK in general isn't that busy.
