Road Shoes: PI Octane SL II or Bontrager RXL
I'm in the market for some new shoes after my venerable Adidas AdiStar Pro Road shoes finally bit the dust. The shop that sponsors my club only sells Bontrager and Pearl Izumi shoes.
I'm choosing between the Pearl Izumi Octane SL II and the Bontrager RXL.
Concerns about the PIs:
- No ratcheting strap (does this matter)
- Too light->not durable
- According to some have a cheap feel
- Not very good looking
Concerns about the Bontragers:
- Clash with my Specialized bike and gear
- Build quality
- Sole not very stiff
The PI shoes are about 50$US more expensive. Anyone with any experience with either shoe care to comment?

Bontrager makes good stuff for cheap. Whichever you get, you'll be getting your money's worth. I suspect the Bontrager pair will stand up to the rough stuff better but I don't have the experience to say for sure.
