Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Avanti bikes

I know that the members of this forum are probably American, and these bikes are probably not available in the US, but I thought I'd ask anyway. Does anyone here ride an Avanti (New Zealand company)? I have just bought an Avanti cadent 2.0 (full carbon with ultegra) which was quite a bit cheaper than a comparable Specialised (for example), possibly because I am not paying a premium for a widely recognised brand.

So far I am really happy with it. Relaxed geometry suits my stiff and relatively inflexible body, although I won't be able to comment on how well it races until after I regain some fitness.

Does anyone else ride an Avanti? Comments?

Just so you don't feel alone... I do ride an Avanti-framed MTB. Avanti is an OK brand. I fancy they source their frames from the same factory as makes other US brands. Simply puttng it, enjoy your ride!

I've got an old Avanti Pro series. It's been rebuilt with Campy Mirage 8 Speed. As it is early 90s aluminium the ride is a bit harsh but not too bad. The new Avanti's look good and I'd be tempted if I was buying a brand new road or mountain bike.

I have a two-year-old Avanti Cadent 1.0 that I've upgraded most of the components on. The fit really suits me - with long legs and short torso a longer headtube frame allows sizing down to get a shorter top-tube without the bars being ridiculously low.

Comfortable and stable handling, looks pretty enough. You wouldn't ride crits on it though, I wouldn't call the handling exactly sharp, but that may be what the OP wants. Versatile enough to commute and do weekend rides on.

Two years ago the carbon finish on the ones they were selling was only average. Hope they've improved it by now.
