Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Hammer Kit Update, Tested

This is an update to my original post when i got the kit two weeks ago. i ordered the Voler shorts and jersey, fit was perfect, look was great. I am not an expert, i am really just starting to get into cycling, i have been using cycling as cross training for marathon training. I have the stock saddle that came on my bike. I had been using Performance Bike Ultra shorts before i got these.

Now on to the test, over the last two weeks i have done 4 rides in the shorts and jersey, 2 that were 40 miles each, and 2 that were 55 miles each, they were absolutely amazing. In my original post i stated the pad looked just like the pad that was in the Per. Bike Ultra shorts, well it might be the same pad, but its definitely in a better location for me, I dont even want to wear the PB ultras anymore, but i have to since i dont do laundry everyday. I washed the kit 4 times, always on gentle cycle and air dried, no issues at all. I will be ordering atleast another kit, plus maybe the bibs, gotta see what all the bib hype is about.

the voler and the bergamo do not utilize the same chamois. the description for the bergamo is indicating the 2010 has the same chamois as the 2009 bergamo. later.

"Voler has really stepped it up in 2010 with their FS Elite shorts/bibs - these are as good or better than competing shorts costing over $200. New fabric, new 9-panel cut, new stitching, flat seams, non-elastic comfort grip, soft elastic waistband, and our favorite Trilogy chamois also used in our Bergamo bibs!"

Did i misunderstand the Voler shorts description?

how do these bibs compare to the mid-end Castelli bibs (i.e. Velocissimo)?

I have 3 pair of Castelli shorts (1 Bib Rosa Corsa quality and two knickers - all have the same red chamois)
A lot different than the Trilogy chamois on a pvt team kit made by Voler.
Castelli's chamois is a lot thinner and I am very satisfied with it.
The Trilogy chamois is more diaperish. (It was highly rated as an upgrade option to Voler's standard chamois. The literature mentioned it was used by Flandis' recent team on some long distance rides) I have only worn it once in a 55mi A group ride. It was fine, but I do not require that much padding. (Other members of our our club are very pleased but they are comparing it to some lousy shorts/chamois mfr'd by champion they had two years prior)
As anything, I think the fit of the short (remaining snug and holding the chamois is place) is just as important.

BTW I was out voted (almost unanimously) for my choice - RS Sugoi Bibs. IMO, they offered the best bang for the buck in a bib. (alliteration intended)

I don't really care for Voler bibs, but the '09 Bergamo are nice for the price. Not on par with high end, but much nicer then Voler IMO.

Yep, I just ordered the new '10 voler bibs. Should get to try them sometime next week. Didn't have enough credits for them to be free but majorly discounted. Also the newest post card was for a free bottle and some sample gels.

I bought that stuff and couldn't stand it. Totally weak compared to Pete's.

Got out on my '10 voler bibs today. Pad is at least as good as my Capo bibs and the straps are more comfortable. Overall better than the older versions of the Voler/hammer bibs and shorts i have.
