Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Advice on bar tape :)

Hi,

I've got the choice of two makes of bartape.

Has anyone heard or tried either of these:

1) One Vero Cork Handle-bar Ribbon - made it Italy (might be cork or contain cork)

2) Dedatape Nastro Per Manubrio Handle-bar tape - made in Italy (doesn't look as cork like)

I think these might possibly be from the same manufacturer ?

Any opinions anyone ?

You mean "Deda tape" right? Not Dedatape. And "Nastro Per Manubrio" just means handlebar tape.

I like the bog standard Deda stuff. It's easy to wrap, comfortable, and comes in lots of colours. It isn't cork like some of the more expensive tapes but since I wear gloves I can't tell the difference.

If they're around $10 just get both and come back with a review. I like Deda personally.

Deda tape in silver carbon color is sexy and cheap compared to fizik, bontrager, etc.

I've used Deda, Fizik, and really cheap brands of bar tape. Deda is pretty nice. It doesn't have as much cushion as Fizik in my opinion. That may be because I use Deda on my commuter, which is an all weather bike so I will ride it in the rain or cold sometimes. The Deda tape is really durable though. My road bike Fizik take is much softer and seems like it lasts longer.

I recently put Fizik Microtape on my road bike. It's not as soft as Fizik, but it seems like its a lot more durable.

I don't think you can go wrong with Deda though.

first tape i ever bought was bontrager gel tape. i thought it was superbe. then i tried cinelli and deda and both were crap. i hate them both. so for my latest build i went back to bontrager. i did take a look at the fizik micro stuff that people here keep praising, but it seemed too thin for my preferences. i like thick squigy tape.

i just notice OP in in uk. get down to your nearest Evans and have a feel of the bontrager tape. you can't really tell by online purchase. the feel is very distinctive from the other tapes in the store.

I have bontrager gel tape wrapped around fizik bar gels on my bike right now and needless to say my bars are pretty cushy. Bontrager's red is a bit too bright for my tastes though.

Squigy? It's a handlebar for crying out load, not a sofa.

OP, I've got Deda on one of my bikes and it's just fine. But be aware i don't like "squigy" handlebars.

Any generic cork tape is usually pretty decent stuff, although standard Deda tape is very nice IMO. I think mike868y has it right though, you are probably overthinking this.

If you really want cushy, wrap an old inner tube around the bars and then wrap some cheap cork tape around that. Chunky but effective.

+1. Love it. Especially if you are doing white tape, this is hands down my favorite (not the soft touch version though). Stays remarkably clean.

Fizik Microtex tape has been my favorite and that's after using Deda foam and Cinelli cork.

Thin but still a great texture. (The soft touch is "squigy.")

this stuff is hard to wrap without creases/folds right? I might just suck at it, but it seems like after I'm "done" I always fine 1 bad crease...

All you guys that say you like the Fizik, do you wrap your own bar tape or let the shop do it?

I just about never got it to look decent.

Ok,

I've got several of each.

Don't expect a review too soon, as I don't know how well they will last.....
