Forge CTS 1000 Road Bike from Target?
I'm about to click "order" on this bike. Its going to be about $310 after cash back and a coupon.
Seems to be a good deal and looking at the previous thread on here, seems legit for a first road bike.
All sora parts with what seemed to be a giant manufactured frame

In that price range, CL is your friend. Used bikes are excellent.
My Centurion Ironman Master was much cheaper than that bike and it came with full Ultegra components in near mint condition, not Sora.
Avoid X-mart bikes, even that ridiculous carbon bike Wal-Mart sells.

The problem is that I am 5'6 which means I need about a 52-54" frame. Even in Chicago, I've only seen one bike the past month that is my size and modern. I saw a trek 1000 for about $425, but was missing pedals, so figure around $450, and it doesn't seem like its worth another $100 or so for a used bike

It should be fine as long as it fits. It's going to be a cheap bike though so expect to have to true the wheels a bunch, which you'll have to pay for if you don't know how.

Just leave them for now. They are kinda nice to have, the in line levers. To remove them you have to replace the cable housing and pull both brake cables and brake cable ends. A bit of a pain in the a, but not to hard if you decide you hate them.
