Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Star Trek's Transparent Aluminum

Yes, TRANSPARENT ALUMINUM!!!

I didn't want to clutter the other fantasy-metal thread going on at the same time, but if you're a Trekky (or even if you're not), you may get rather excited to know that this material is now a reality:

https://www.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123012131

Hmm, a transparent 'metal' bike frame... I think it'd be cool!

give me a break! I told myself no more bikes after the Ti was finished and now they bring out something new? It's never going to end.

Lieutenant La Monica said experimenting with the polishing process has proven beneficial.

"We found that by polishing it a certain way, we increased the strength of the material by two-fold," he said.
Freaky cool.

This is the best idea I've heard since my invention of transparent bike clothing (for the ladies).

If companies can only invent transparent rubber for tires, transparent groupset, etc., we could have the first transparent bike! I could see it now, "hey, has anyone seen my bike?"

When the fed gov wants to buy with years of development delay, 1000% cost overruns, a design that fails to meet specificatiosn and a final unit price at least 20x higher than projected.

Then after a year or two someone will notice the Lockheed Martin bikes can't be ridden in the rain (else the powder coating will fall off) and require approximately 30 hours of maintenance for every hour of riding time.

America, **** yeah!
