Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Knee pain...thoughts?

Hello,

My fiance and I went on a 50 mile ride yesterday. And post ride, she was feeling a touch of knee pain...left knee, on the outside. Do you think something needs to be adjusted? Or is it just a case of having ridden 50 miles for really our second ride of the year?

It could be anything, since there are no pics to scrutinize bike fit or position on the bike.

you should always build up your training gradually - in any sport

and once you've built it up you shouldn't go over your limit

if u take enough time off and then jump back in with both feet you will get hurt in ANY sport - because in your mind you still remember the way you trained LAST TIME but you don't realize that your body doesn't remember it ...

my advice is:

1 - never take more than 2 weeks off from any physical activity

2 - make sure your overall fitness regimen covers your entire body without missing even a single muscle

any part of your body that you neglect to train will ultimately come back to you as an injury sooner or later.

work into miles slowly! You may feel you want to rack up tons of miles - go Slowly. The trick is to avoid injury. For the pain, ice massage - freeze in paper cup and massage on areas of pain for 15 mins. Work back into it.

Good luck.
