Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

New wheels for you

Sub 1100 grams, deep dish CF (60mm front, 66 mm rear), $2600, 4 year warranty no rider weight limit.

Fascinating.

PCADdy, you still loving your dura-ace wheels? I hear they are like $700 now from the UK sites.

Yep, great wheels. I paid $800 or so, but then again I managed to get the company I ordered from to deliver the goods. You'll find that many of those lower priced sites often don't have the wheels in stock.

I like their version of a triplet laced rear.

Overall, they kind of remind me of the original Spinergy wheels with the wide spokes.

Overall though, meh, I guess they're cheaper than LEWs, but weigh 25% more.

They look nice. I'll wait till they do R&D on the early adopters to see how they fare.

Interesting new set of wheels though, good price point relative to Zipp. I'm wondering how they'll hold up in actual use.

They are the hot topic on WW right now. I like them... don't know that I'd race them for fear of crashing but I'd train on them!

But yes, I like them. If they wanted to give me free wheels, I would ride them. I would not however pay 2600 bucks for ANY wheelset.

Definitely some of the coolest looking rims. The up close pictures make the spokes look like paper mache though, but the 4 year warranty is pretty good. We should get a review soon on bf.

A warranty is only good if the company is still around.

I saw these at the ToC. They look almost delicate in person. Insanely light in your hands. They said they're going after the 404 and 808 market. And they said they'll offer crash insurance.

I filled out a postcard for a chance to win a set. If I win, I'll post a report.

The only real exception is for the bearings, which is one year.

The rest of it is standard legal stuff, i.e. they're excluding consequential damages, meaning they'll give you a new wheel if it fails catastrophicly, but they are't paying your medical bills.

I'd be willing to bet just about every manufacturer in the bike business excludes consequential damages.

If the hubs are damaged the wheel assembly is not useable so what good is a 4 year warranty? This leads me to believe that allot of their weight savings came from the hubs.

Freehub is interchangeable, and bearings are just press-fit cartridge style, so not much can go wrong there. It says chromoly axles, so not much weight savings there...

I think most of the weight savings comes from the lack of spoke holes and nipples. No extra rim reinforcement is needed in that area as you don't have a point source for stress, and the load can be smoothly distributed through the layup. Plus you don't have the hardware (threads and nipples).
