Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Price for Cannondale R200

I am looking at buying a used Cannondale R2000, full Ultegra. By the color and components I think it is a 2004, but the guy is going to check for me for sure. Do you think that $800 is a fair price?

Thanks and sorry if this a lame question to ask.

Not sure about the price without pics, could be a great deal if not raced or wrecked. Sorry, I don't know much about Cannondales, good luck.

Thanks oldpilot. I am probably going to look at it today. According to the owner it hasn't been raced and only has 300 miles. It does have mavic ksryrium sl wheels and full ultegra. I just want to know if it's worth checking out as it is about a 2 hour drive for me. It should fit me and I'm trying to be patient and pick up a good deal. Not sure if this is the one or not.
Here is the only pic I have. Crappy small craigslist pic

it's a decent deal - only if it fits and is in good shape though. The mavic k SL's have a pretty good following - you could probably resell those wheels alone for $300-400 simply for the bling factor if you're in a good used bike market area (e.g. SO Cal)

I'd wait for a better deal. I'm not a component snob. $200 is my limit. I paid $5 for a 1995 Cannondale R600, and $25 for an 85 Bridgestone 400.

I paid $900 for an '06 CAAD 8 (R5000) with full Dura Ace in great condition a year ago. The wheels are only Mavic Elites. There are better deals out there or offer him $600 and see if he bites.

Yeah, I already offered him less and he won't go any lower. I might just wait it out and offer him less if it hasn't sold in a week. But the used bikes are going pretty fast. I've put offers on several looking for a deal and they all were sold for full price within a couple days. Like I said, I'm trying to be patient but I'm itchin to get on a geared road bike again.

I ended up getting the bike. Talked him down to 700 and he threw in some stuff. Specialized carbon soled shoes, a new bell helmet, a couple of spare tubes, a patch kit and co2 pump. The bike came with a fizik arione tri saddle and look pedals. I'm pretty stoked that the shoes and helmet fit me perfectly. Tomorrow....we ride.
