First Bar Tape Job, Critique
So I replaced my bar tape after I tore my old tape on a low speed crash in the rain. I think I could do a much better job the next time on the finishing edge on the flats.

Steel is real, baby!
Could be a tad more evenly wrapped, but nobody notices that stuff much... especially when you're riding.
But, it looks fine.

It's good for the first time.
I'm really OCD about my bar tape and insist on making it perfect. After reading CDR's blog about bar tape, I cut both ends diagonally so they sit flush. I also keep the spacing the same (except when you get the where the bar curves) so that it looks neat. Another thing I like to do is have the same number of wraps, so that it matches. Looking at your pictures, I think you may have 10 on the drive side and 11 on the non-drive side. Also it looks like you might not have kept the stretched the whole time.
If it's Mircotex tape, you could probably re-wrap it. I've used both Fizik tapes, and the regular one doesn't seem to be as strong as Microtex.

Yeah it is the Fizik Microtex tape, damn I thought I counted the wraps on each side correctly. I think the Bar Gel underneath made it a little more difficult to keep the tape pulled taut. As far as the bunched on the curves I guess I was a little to worried about the overlap on the outside vs inside. Thanks for the fedback. Tape is pretty cheap so in a few weeks when it's really dirty and I'm bored I'll give it another try.
So can you point me to this CDR Blog??

I'm not that particular, as far as counting wraps, but I like an even look/feel left to right. My tape right now is in terrible shape, may rewrap before tomorrow's race.

wow... i didn't know some people could be so OCDish on bar tape...
i don't fall that far behind... i like everything to be symmetrical... everything... even my tattoo's... so when i wrapped my bullhorns and drop bars, i counted the stripes and made sure they are even... but even if it's not or i see another poorly wrapped bar, i wouldn't be able to notice at all...

Seems like a lot of unnecessary overlap at the bends. Try pulling it harder next time to get a smoother curve. Microtex won't tear easily.

Nice, I think I will do it myself as well.
My white tape is dirty after 1,300 miles in three months, i think I switching to black.
What is the best tape?

My tape is HORRIBLE right now. With kind of a break in A races (I learned today was an A race only 2 days ago), I'll have a chance to do the bike up in white tape and saddle. I'll see how long that lasts.

Like others have said, it appears to be slightly uneven--wider near the end bars, narrower towards the top and around the curves. Overall, though, I'd say job well done!

I rewrapped my bars a few months ago with some really crappy tape that ended up tearing on one side. After reading this thread, I'm glad that it did so I can rewrap them!

What does the type of bike you own have anything to do with anything?
I never said I didn't know now to wrap my bars. I just want to wrap them better. The Bontrager tape I bought is too soft for my purposes and ripped.
As for my other bike, it's a hybrid and doesn't get wrapped, stupid.

Finishing tape on the port side is a little excessive, but otherwise, looks good.
