1st time shave: thoughts.

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

1st time shave: thoughts.

Hated being the only person out of 20 or so in group rides with hairy legs so I did the deed finally. Love the smoothness and look. But the best part is that I can easily give my legs a deep massage after hard rides.

Negative part? Horrible itchyness and uncomfortableness. I used a new razor and shaved with the grain the first time and against a few days later. Think I didnt wait long enough. I really hope it passes (and I mean never happens again) or I cant do this anymore. I rubbed on some lotion to cool the burn and went riding soon after. All of the lotion came out of my pores (incredible sight to see in 5 minutes dry legs go to wet glistened legs) and my legs became covered with road sand and grit. Made things worse. WTF.

Remember the first time you shaved your face? Just give it some time.

Remember not to try dry shaving your legs, do it after or at least 10 minutes into a warm shower or bath. I've never had itchiness but then my leg hair is not coarse. Just give it some time.

I still can't shave against the grain and I have been shaving for years. My face is not so much fun either. I have very sensitive skin.

figured out another part of the problem. got a sunburn on top of all that today. apparantly hair masks the sun well, and even after many miles of riding, the first long ride in the sun got me burned. mix that with razor burn and grit all over my legs? wonderful.

I really do think it is hillarious reading the whining of some of the men who shave for the first time. Be strong and woman-like ... many of us have been shaving regularly and successfully since we were in our early teens.

(PS. Shave in the shower and use hair conditioner as your shaving cream)

So you did it because of peer pressure. (The cool kids are doing it!)

It's like elementary school all over again.

I also find it funny how many guys have legs that are far more sensitive than their faces.

Shaving my face sucks worse than the legs. I dread it.

Same here. Legs first time: quick, smooth, easy painless. Face after years of practice: red bumps on the neck every time.

I used to shave in the shower with shampoo or hair conditioner but my legs were always irritated and bumpy. now when I shave I go over my legs with a hot washcloth then lather on some standard shaving cream and shave away. This has worked much better than the shower approach for me but ymmv.

I just can't get myself to go through with it. I mean I just couldn't shave my legs only. Everything is connected on me. If I stop at my legs the ladies will ask why I'm wearing furry underwear.
