Mad Respect..
For people who can climb all day to crazy altitudes.
I did the biggest climb in my local area today. I also did my longest ride to date (40 mi).
I went 20mi out to Mt. Wachusett and back. When I got to the mountain visitor center - after a grueling climb that had already kicked the snot out of me - a guy in the office told me I could take the summit road, and then proceeded to warn my about the gravel from the construction..
"No sweat" I thought (in 95deg weather).. so I headed out on the summit road. About .25 mi from the summit, I had to take my first real break for fear of passing out on the bike. My HR had been hovering at 189 for a couple of minutes and standing or sitting, I just couldn't get it back down. So I stopped for a few minutes to catch my breath.
I finished the climb, got yelled at by a different guy on my way back down for being on the road (according to him, the guy in the office was wrong) and then made my way back to the starting point.
All told, 3100 ft of vertical climbing over 40 miles, which though a milestone for me, is chump change for many of you.

So consider this a virtual nod of the head to all of you guys who can climb like mountain goats..
