Sleeveless jerseys . . . good idea? or leave it alone?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

LOL - what does search say? I've got too much of a farmer's tan, so I just ordered a sleeveless from Performance. I entertained the idea of asking here, but thought better of it.

But now I'm curious.

Are you a woman?
Do you race triathlons?

If you answered "yes" to either (preferably both) then go for it.

If you have non-skinny arms, go for it.

If you don't have guns, you look like a skinny ******bag.

If you have guns, you look like a muscular ******bag.

not sure what this thread is about but I was running today and I just wanted to rip my clothes off and run with as little as possible. of course I don't live alone on the moon or whatever so I kept my clothes on of course. but it is so liberating to wear as little as possible when training in the heat.

Why not just wear a wifebeater? That's a good look as long as you are cycling on the Jersey Shore.

Cheers!

I've been carefully cultivating my farmer tan arms and legs, sleeveless would be counterproductive.
When I go to the beach my tan is like a badge of honor...

Well, it's a violation of The Rules.

So I'd advise against it.

real cyclists have skinny arms that need to be covered.

I was this way for awhile. The novelty wore off pretty quickly. My tan lines last through the winter. The goal for the next few months is to get rid of them. Still--no sleeveless jerseys shall be used. Rolling up your sleeves is acceptable.

Why can't pros wear sleeveless jerseys?

Because they need the space to put advertising/sponsorship stuff. It's not for any better reason than that.

We also dissipate a lot of body heat from the armpits, so it is much safer from a potential heat-injury standpoint to go sleeveless.

Having said that, I wear sleeveless this time of year (heat index>90 on my last three rides) but I"m also a dork.

Before I deleted the original post, I had run down these plusses and minusses:

Plus: Cooler in the heat

Minus: Sunburn on shoulders, at least initially

Minus: Glowing, farmer's tan arms, at least for the first season

Minus: SKINNY cyclist arms (Big arms look great in a sleeveless. Cyclist arms can give you that concentration camp look.)

Minus: Pit hair gone wild!
