Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Thinking about my first TT... advice?

I looked in the Road Racing subforum but most of that TT stuff seems pretty hardcore. This TT is a 9.1 mile out and back ride held over 4 weekends and they take your best 2 times (only one time per day) and then declare a winner based on age categories.

I'm just wondering if it would be dumb for me to sign up and try it or if I should say eff-it and go for it and see what happens.

I don't have any TT specific biking gear... just my normal road bike setup.

I guess I'm just looking to see what you all think. Should I sign up and go for it or will I be shunned as a noob showing up with a road bike with MTB shoes and random ass Performance Bike jersey, lol.

If you have the money and would enjoy it, there's nothing wrong with going out and doing it.

An English teacher I had does a lot of triathlons. He says he normally passes a few people on his entry level Allez that have have the full TT setup with aero wheels and helmet.

Yeah, I'd probably end up paying the $60 for a USAC license vs. 3-4 $10 one day passes, and then the $50 for all 4 races. I guess it's not cheap but I really want to do more races. There's only so much riding against your previous times you can take before you start to get bored.
