Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

New bike

Hi, I'm new to this forum, great site!

I just bought a "new" used bike, a U.S made Cannondale Criterium 600 TRI/Road with Bontreger "Race" wheels and Shimano 105's, cat eye speedo, and Michelin Speedium tires.

I thought I got a good deal as it's in nearly mint condition and used lightweight road bikes are going for stupid dollars here in South Florida.

Anyway, my question....

I have an old Schwinn Paramount 564 aluminum with old style shifter levers on the frame tubes, and this Cannondale has Shimano "7 Speed" shifters on the brake lever housing and I shifted them down but for the life of me I can't shift them back up? Are they broken or do I have a paradigm shift problem :-) How do I get them to shift up?

Any help will be appreciated,

Gary
