Bike fiting nightmare

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'm 6'2 w/ 34.5 inseam and ride a 61cm frame. A 60cm frame would probably be best for me. I felt compacted on the 58cm.

Sometimes you can find geometry charts for bikes and compare the measurements.
A much better, and quicker, measurement is from the center of the saddle to the center of the bars at the stem.

Yeah actually that makes a hell of a lot more sense.

So I got to ride the bike. It felt awseome, well now I think compared to my mbt any road bike would be an improvement. I'm addicted now.

But honestly the top tube gives me like an inch of clearance, saddle is fine, but I'm stretched out just a little too much. even put a negative 17 stem in. I had a little lower back pain, but then again after only a 10 mile test ride I haven't felt this sore in a long time. This might be due to my wear core as well.

I am 6'4" as well with a 35 inseam, I fit fine on Specialized 60cm and Trek 62cm.

Anything lower than 60 on any brand will give you trouble, but you'll have to go around to different companies and see which one fits you as they all vary slightly. You should be safe with anything 60cm and up.

you really need to try each and every bike out that you are looking into purchasing, a 58cm so so might fit differently than another 58cm bike from another brand etc.

ride em

But for the time being is there a way to raise handlebars on the bike or get a shorter and higher stem. Maybe a correction of 2-3 inches higher, not necessarily shorter.

Change the rise on the stem from negative to positive (un-flip it). You'll shorten the reach and initially save your lower back.

If there are spacers above the stem, move them below the stem and remount. That may buy you some height.

As you get more comfortable on the bike and more fit, you'll be pulling the spacers out again.

ride lots and report back.

Are you new to road bikes? I am and it took some getting used to. A lot of my problem was not relaxing enough on my bike. But I also have flexibility issues and a gut. you will feel sore in your upper body for a few rides if you aren't used to road bikes. And you have to lean so much it kind of feels unnatural so that can cause tension.

I'm 6'2" with a 35" inseam. I rode a 60cm for a long time, but after a period of adjusting my fit and trying different things, I'm on a 58cm now. I found that it was easy to get a good saddle position on either, and it was easy to set a good saddle-to-bar distance on either, but the 60cm set the head tube height a little too high - with no spacers I still didn't have the drop I needed.

I have the 58 set up with just a 5mm spacer and it works fine, and the tighter geometry of a smaller frame feels more responsive and quicker than the 60 did. For fast group rides, the 58 is great. If I were going on more relaxed long rides, I might build the 60 back up.
