Entry level road bike -- Felt Z100 or Trek 1.2

I've been looking at some entry level road bikes because my Trek Soho 1.0 isn't cutting it on longer rides. Yeah, that's the excuse I'm using to look at some new bikes. I'm looking at the two below:

    Felt Z100: http://www.feltbicycles.com/USA/2010...ries/Z100.aspx

    Trek 1.2: http://www.feltbicycles.com/USA/2010...ries/Z100.aspx

I am also open to any suggestions for other bikes in that price range. I'd prefer to keep it in the $700s and the cap is $900.

Lastly, better to deal in the fall/winter and look for possible leftovers?

    Thanks!!

I have the Trek 1.2 and like it. Can keep up with no issues on B, C group rides. But I've got my eyes on a Motobecane Immortal 15.5 pounds that I plan to pull the trigger on next spring.

Giant Defy. How about a Specialized Steel Allez? Change out the downtube for an 8 speed STI - should land you in your price range. More character and probably a more comfortable bike.

Just watch out for bikes direct...you may be sold on the weight...but just keep an eye on the component level... research before you drop the dough! A pound of flesh, no more no less!
    OP
I used to have the Trek 1.2... great little bike. I like Felt too. Both are great bikes and you cant go wrong.

Try to get a leftover 2009 Trek 1.5 for the price range you're in.
They are this year's 2.1/2.3 Series frame (Alpha Black).
Plus, you'll get much better components.
Out of those two, I'd get the Trek.

I'm quite a fan of Felt being the owner of 2, and am looking hard at a 2011 Z5, good bikes with a good value of components, also cooler riding something the not quite as common as Trek.

Thanks for the input! Of course, I start looking and there is a Giant Defy Advanced 3 with carbon frame on sale. It really has me thinking about extending my budget. The Felt Z85 has also caught my eye. Research seems to indicate that it is better to up the budget a little and get better components. Giant Deft advanced would be around 1800, but I'm thinking stay away from entry level carbon and going with an aluminum with budget bumped to 1200. Thoughts and suggestions welcome.

    Thanks!

For 1200 you can get a trek 1.5 which has tiagra components. I bet right now you can find 2010s on sale too so maybe 1000.

several local shops have the 1.5 for 999, doesn't seem to be any availability problems either, inventories are fairly high at the moment
