Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Topeak Race Rocket review? Looking for input please.

I'm looking for a new hand pump and wonder if anyone can vouch for this being a viable pump. Any pros or cons are appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

Just tried to get on their site and it's apparently down right now. For grins though, why Lezyne over Topeak. Pretend I missed last months coverage.

Lezynes have fewer plastic parts to break, and may be a few grams lighter. I would have bought a Lezyne if I knew about them, but I have had no problem with the Topeak.

Lezyne pumps are pretty. This is usually the only reason to get a bike part over another similar bike part.

I've been riding long enough to know that pretty bicycle parts are 2mph faster than ugly ones. Pretty and color coordinated...that's good for 4-5mph. You can win a lot of races like that.

Found a link to the Lezyne catalog that works so I'll check it out. I just want a good pump that will fit in a jersey pocket. Shouldn't be too difficult to find, right?

BF consensus is that lezyne is the way to go.

That being said, I have a topeak micro rocket and have no complaints. You have to pump it up for a long time to get it up to approx 80 psi (enough to get you home). Fits very nicely in jersey pocket or small wedge pack.

I use a road morph right now and highly recommend it as well (except it is kind of falling apart: foot peg screw rattled loose at some point, the plastic piece that secures the hose rotates around the body of the pump, etc).

I've tried both. The Topeak was a pain in the ass to pump with. The Lezyne is the easiest pump I've used. Purchased at REI. Before I spent the $$ on it, I tried it out on one of their road bike tires. Filled it up in no time. I carry it in my back pocket as well.

Your results may vary...
