What should I buy?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What should I buy?

I have a 2009 Jamis Ventura Sport and was recently thinking about getting into road racing. I will be making approximately 500 buck in the next week and was wondering what would be the best things to buy? Thanks in advance

Be ready to hear

1) what are you a noob?

2) a new bike.

3) dont buy anything and work on your legs!

I wont give my opinion publicly or it would be argued. Good luck! Enjoy the site!

To buy? Wheels. To do? Train. Bike upgrades do very little if you don't have the legs to get the advantage out of the gear.

Race once, find the limitations in your bike (if there are any) then buy accordingly.

What should you buy? Whatever your break after your first crash. Good luck and have fun out there!

What do you have on your bike already? If you're upgrading your bike for racing, don't buy anything that you can't transfer to a new bike. The Ventura Sport has bottom of the line components, so I wouldn't consider it worthy of many upgrades. A new bike would probably do you better.

You could buy a new wheelset or saddle. Make sure you keep your old ones, in case you decide to upgrade bikes. Depending on what tires you have, you may want to consider getting nicer ones.

If you want to race, your money would be best spent by hiring an experienced cycling coach.
