Campagnolo Zonda or Fulcrum Racing 3?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Campagnolo Zonda or Fulcrum Racing 3?

I want to upgrade some Fulcrum Racing 7's (and save them for winter). It's for general blasting around, with plenty of climbing, on a Wilier Mortirolo and I'm around 13st 7lbs / 190lbs.

I have my eye on the Racing 3 and the Zonda - both the same price here in the UK, but the Zonda's are 100g lighter. (I know Campy make them both.)

Any reason to choose the heavier wheel? Is it more robust? Smoother ride on rougher tarmac?

I'm no expert on wheels - all I can compare is price and weight - so any comments to help me choose would be appreciated.

Both wheel sets are great , just pick the one that looks best on your bike and the one you can nab at a better deal / price... Now make sure that wheelset you do choose of the two is a 2 way fit version so you can give yourself the option of going tubles...

Fulcrums are BOMBPROOF. my 5's are true after a year and a bit of training, racing, crashing, catching air on speed bumps and all sorts of other shenanigans including offroad cx style riding and serious abuse. one guy came into our shop with fulcrum 7's after a crash. his frame was wrecked, proper write off in about 3 pieces, massive head on collision with the side of a van. his wheels were perfectly true. maybe that is why they are a little heavier.

The Fulcrum 3s have been great for me - have never needed any work doing to them. They come across as very stiff and bomb-proof and suitable for a heavier rider. Have never ridden the Zondas so I can't comment on them.

Really enjoying my Fulcrum Zero's with the tubeless tires. 2-way for the win

Is your bike set up with shimano/sram or campagnolo? If the former, might as well get the fulcrums as the big campagnolo logos on the zonda would clash with your components.
And Racing 3=Zonda pretty much, don't worry too much about the G3 spoking of the zonda rear wheel, doesn't make much difference at all.

I have a G3/G4 Zonda wheelset, it's suuuper nice. Never having tried the Fulcrum wheels I can't add to the debate though.

Picture in the sig.

Thanks everyone... that's brilliant feedback, so quickly.

I'm reassured on both, but my bike is Campy, which is why I particularly like the LOOK of the Zonda's - and for the slight weight 'advantage' I'll probably go for them... and there's just something magical about that word... Campagnolo!

I have several thousand miles on a pair of Zonda 2-Way Fit wheels, and I have been extremely happy with their performance and durability. I weigh ~210lbs, for what it is worth.

I'm 230, and my Fulcrum 5's began developing cracks in the rims at a little over 6k miles with no real abuse. The good news is Fulcrum is rebuilding them for free.

FWIW - I ended up buying 2010 Neutrons (not the Ultra's)... I thought the more traditional spoke pattern suited my Wilier. Brilliant deal on these, from Shiny Bikes, in the UK - £360.00 the pair. Put them on the bike tonight and they look sweeeet!
