I think every married man will find a snippet in there they've heard from their wives....

I cringed just hearing him ask about going for a ride.
My latest goes something like this:
"Honey, I'm going to get up early and go for a ride tomorrow."
"Oh. I was thinking we could ride together tomorrow."
Me=40-60 miles, 100-105rpm, 18-22MPH
She=comfort bike, 5-7miles, 8-12MPH, talk talk talk gab gab gab blah blah blah
Is there really an acceptable retort to that? Or at least one that results in me getting in my ride without having a ticked off wife?
I'm very sensitive about this topic! I usually start laying the foundation for long weekend rides at least 5 days in advance. Come on! It's not like I'm out drinking and carousing!
Grrrr... got me in a pi$$y mood now just thinking about it.

Chris Rock was right: "Married & bored, or single & lonely."
If I had a nickel for every hapless shlub with the sad little faraway look in his eyes who started talking to me about my motorcycle at the gas station while waiting for his minivan to fill up. And they invariably console themselves by concluding, "Those things really are too dangerous though..."

Man I hope in the very future, I won't have a wife complaining about me riding.
Ever since I started riding, I've had two girlfriends who would say "Your too busy for me, blah blah go ride your stupid bike." It's so funny because It only takes a typical 1-3 hours on a weekday which I spend to ride my bike and they assume I'm "Too busy"
But yeah, I've realized since girlfriends are always usually temporary before college, it's better to put the bike as the priority.

Exactly, at least she wants to participate with you. Mine likes to go jogging with me from time to time or ride the mountain bikes. I just go slower.
Wow, I must be spoiled cause I cannot imagine getting flack for doing something good for your health like a nice long ride.
I do have a few friends that are married to some real life suckers though. One guy just had his second child so she told him to go get snipped and he could buy a new boat. So he does it and goes boat shopping for a while and picks one out. When it comes down to it she's all "yeah, you are not buying a boat now". I don't think it really matter what he does in his life, cause he is already living in hell!

Be back for lunch and use any means possible to hide the fatigue. Another possible path - point out golf takes way longer. Though this tends to escalate things.
