Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Mounting computer so sweat doesn't fall on it - Suggestions?

I mounted my Garmin 705 atop my handlebar. I drip on the bottom portion of it when I sweat and it makes it hard to read [bold text added in edit - I'm not worried about the computer being damaged].

It seems like this wouldn't be a problem if the computer were mounted farther forward.
  • Is this Topeak "BarXtender" a reasonable solution? It works as a straight extension or a T-shaped extension.
  • Or is there a better solution?

This.

I have a Sigma computer on my stem and neither sweat nor rain affect it.

If a bike computer won't hold up under normal riding conditions, and sweating happens while riding, then I'd reconsider my purchase.

Pcad drips snots on his 'puter. Just wipe the sweat off when you're done. Unless of course you have that sweat that erodes the laser etching off of a RoadID...that's toxic, man.

Oh no you didn't!

When I recover from the paroxysm of laughter caused by your post, I'll check back here to see what havoc you may have instigated...

You sir, FWIW, have my admiration.

You might try a tennis wrist band. That way you can wipe the face of the Garmin from time to time. As the band gets saturated, rotate it to let it dry out.

FWIW, the bar extenders bounce around too much for me. Given that the 705 is a heavy little beast, that'd make reading the screen even more annoying. Maybe you can just mount it on the bars and tilt it up a bit, so sweat rolls off. Or, start another one of the 400 or so threads on best headband/skullcap.

Halo, btw.

when I drip on my PT and can't read it, I just wipe it off with the sweat band part of my gloves (or my hand if I'm not wearing my gloves) and keep riding. I wouldn't move it, I'd just wipe it off occasionally. Or not look at my computer so much.

Mount it directly under your seat rather than to the handlebars. Although it will be in close proximity to sweat, none will ever fall on the display.

Another vote for this. I have this on each of my bikes ( Edge 705) and I find that it puts the computer in a position that is much easier to read than on the stem or handlebar. I bought these after trying the FSA bracket, which I found to be too flimsy.

Don't ride with a computer that way it doesn't get wet.

Wrap it in Saran Wrap or something similar, then rubber band around the base. I did this to by cycling 'puter on the Bike Tour of Colorado when it rained every damned day.

I found the solution. Keeps sweat out of your eyes too. You aren't gonna like it.
