Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Here's mine. As of right now, about $2000 in it. Had $750 in it until I upgraded the groupset to Chorus. It's handy having a box full of spare parts lying around! Yeah, I know the stem is short, it's what I had. One of these days I'm going to put a longer one on it. I need a bit more reach.

Used PedalForce RS frameset
Chorus
Old set of Rolf Vector Pro wheels (bought new in '98)
Specialized stem
Salsa Poco bars
SpeedPlay Zero pedals (not the Ti ones, whatever the next model down was, and bought used)

Here are some pictures of the rig complete. I prefer the bottles off the back, its an xlab tubro wing. The seat is level despite what the picture is telling you...

So do the folks with the cheap carbon frames feel they're missing out on anything that comes with the high end frames?

Maybe a cool paint job, but honestly I don't think there is much, if anything...

Don't know since I never had a high end frame. Compared to my aluminum Trek 2.3, the ride is alot smother. If I really thought about it, I guess the piece of mind that my frame came from a well known company.

Well, I'm missing out on the warranty returns of about 3 of my friends with Jamis and Trek frames who've had cracks or BB shell issues..oh, and I'm missing out on the ~$2kish credit card bill for the price difference to "name brand" frames built in the same factory. I have a Calfee frame and an old titanium frame that're more comfortable than the Element Six, but most of that's setup (seat, bars, tires..). The E6 is a great race frame, handles well, it's been trouble free for me, and I liked the price and the way it looks. No brainer.

I actually went on ebay to buy a generic carbon frame, then I found this. Mine for 605 shipped. I have about 1300 in it.

It's a budget build- but only because it would cost a LOT more if I bought a complete bike. More like 'broke the budget' build:

Pedal Force RS2 frame (2008) about $600
Sram Red about $1100
Everything else laying around the house

So....let me ask you guys a question that have bought the "ebay carbon" frames. How are they holding up now? how many miles you put in? Would you recommend a guy who weighs 205lbs buy one?

I've put about 1000 miles on mine. It's held up very well. I ride my bike pretty hard too taking it off curves, hitting the occasional pot holes, and biking over lots of RR tracks around town. However, I only weigh about 135-140 pounds.

people tell me that carbon shouldnt be an issue with my weight. I am just worried about how well these frames hold up.

AFAIK, there aren't any frames that have weight limits. I don't think you should be concerned with if it can hold your weight. 205 pound isn't much anyways.
