Anyone have any information on the Kestrel RT 800 SL?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Anyone have any information on the Kestrel RT 800 SL?

I am trying to get back into road cycling so I am planning on getting a new bike. On the top of my list is the 2010 Kestrel RT 800 SL but I wanted to see if anyone has any experience with it before I drop the money on it.

Also, I tried the search function but since "RT 800 SL" are all under four characters I didn't have much luck.

Thanks, unfortunately still not finding much on it. It will certainly be helpful in the future though.

I purchased a Kestrel rt 800 from Bikes Direct and it is great! It came with Shimano DA 7900 all around and with carbon bars and seat post. I have put about 1000 miles on it with no complaints.

I buy it again!

Thanks but unfortunately the RT 800 isn't the same bike as the RT 800 SL. The SL comes with 105, it is Kestrels entry level bike for 2010.

Sorry, I missed the SL in the original question. Nonthless, Kestrel knows how to build quality frames so I doubt you can go wrong.

This is off topic, but how much does yours weigh? I weighed my 55cm frame and with 2 bottle cages and a computer, it is 18 pounds. I was wondering if mine was just a freak model.

Oh, they're done with the Evoke? That's a shame, I bet it was a good bike.

My rt 800 is a 59 cm frame and with two cages weighs in at just about 18 lbs, but that was on a friends hanging scale and I can't swear by the reading.

I dont have the RT 800 SL, but I do have the 09 Evoke, and for the money it is a excellent deal. I bought just the frame set though. Ride quality, I would put it on par with bikes easily costing double what the Evoke went for new. Hope this helps. Also check out their facebook page and see if there are reveiws on it.

Thank you. I sold both of my Fuji SL1's shortly after my first surgeon (performed surgery on both of my knees) told me that I would most likely never ride again. Since then I have had two more knee surgeries with a second surgeon that told me that cycling was over for me. So, after setting around for 20 months seeing how fat I can get I decided the hell with it, I'm going to try riding. My knees seem to be doing alright but the only bike I kept, Redline Conquest CX, is kicking my butt.

Oh, I'm not on facebook so I won't be able to check out their page. I cancelled my facebook account a few months ago and am very happy that I did. I do appreciate the suggestion though.

Well I placed the order for the bike today, should get to the shop around Wednesday or Thursday. This is the first "entry level" bike I have bought in quite a few years but I am still looking forward to it. I don't know if my out of shape butt can handle another ride on my extremely stiff aluminum cx bike.
