SRAM Rival, Shimano 105 Country Made ?
Can anyone please confirm which country are these groupo made from, based on all the newest model.
2011 Shimano 105 ?
2010 Shimano Ultegra - Japan ?
SRAM Rival - Taiwan ?
Sram Force - Taiwan ?
I beleive only the upper level of Shimano are made from Japan, where the rest are made from Malaysia, but not so sure about the new 105....
Thanks a bunch !

Buy the product and then look at the label. Then you'll know!
Oh wait, are you trying to determine first where it was made to help you decide what to buy?

Look, he's curious. I don't see exactly why it's such dumb question. Even if you think this an uninteresting topic, it can't be any more dull than one more "lord of the flies" bikeforum thread in which BF veterans (i.e., guys who spend half of their waking hours on an internet forum) arbitrarily attack and belittle some "noob" (i.e. someone who's presumably dedicated their time to more productive pursuits). I mean, aside from it being nasty and kind of cowardly, it's mind-numbingly boring.
OP: A number of Shimano's higher end offerings bear a "made in Japan" stamp, but that, in and of itself, doesn't tell you much. What does that "made in Japan" designation require? It's well known that a product that claims to be made in the USA can be at partially manufactured elsewhere. So, in other words, I don't know. Anyone?

Professional Fuss-Budget
The country of manufacture has zero impact on the quality or other properties of the components. As such, it doesn't really matter, and there's no need to worry about it.

It really is just a question. If somebody answered it we could all move on.
My Rival was made in Taiwan. I don't have any 105 or Ultegra.

I have a set of Dura-Ace WH-7850-C24-CL wheels and they were manufactured in Malaysia.

OP, you can't move on because your question has no straight answer. Not in this day and age. I don't believe Shimano designates what group level of components will be made in which country. I have seen Dura-Ace made in Malaysia, Thailand and I believe in Indonesia (I don't remember where I saw that...I think it was in Korea). SRAM, so far, all I have seen are made in Taiwan. All good stuff!

stole your bike
Shimano 105 is crafted in the mines of Moria using the finest Mithril for primo quality and durability. Rival is made by Buddhist monks in Tibet and blessed prior to shipment.

oh wow......many of you really took this too serious and hard, by no mean I am one of those "buy american made" and dont support foreign made products type of person, it was really just a no offense curious question since earlier I was online looking for a pedal where I saw a reviewer complaining his PD5700 was not made in Japan, thus it brought my curiosity where might other parts of Shimano may be made from, when I first saw the 18 responses for this thread I was so excited thinking how much stuff everyon actually know about everything, didnt expect to see so much rather no-use relies

it depends on what you mean by "made" i would suspect. almost all modern companies source parts for their parts from all over the world. i'm speculating of course, but for example, the hoods can be made in taiwan, the levers in japan, the internals in china, and assembly in mexico - where is the shifter "made" then?

Again I hope people dont get offensive and reply none-sense again, I am not going to simply judge a product by where it is made (afterall there are too many factors involved just like some poster have explained), but for the sake I am just curious to know, please dont tell me you never wondered where some of stuff are made from around you, yes a good quality product is a good quality product, but if today Ferrari decided to manufacture their cars in China, for some reason it will just make some people feel a little different, dont you agree ?
