Should I upgrade to Dura Ace 7700?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Should I upgrade to Dura Ace 7700?

A neighbor of mine is selling me an entire dura ace 7700 group (crank and bb, brifters, front and rear derailleurs, and brakes) in pretty good, used, condition. I am upgrading my shimano 600 that came with my 1998 trek 5200. I now have a Abici podium and i feel like i need some slightly more modern components. He is selling it for $300...good deal? yea or nay

Are you building a new bike? If yes, then it's worth it. If you're replacing Shimano 600 (Ultegra) 9 speed, with Dura-Ace 9 speed, I doubt you'll see much of an improvement. But DA might be worth the glitz factor. If it were me and the parts are in very good condition, I'd do it.

hell no. 9 speed is passé. more modern means 10 speed. if the crank & bb has enough miles on them, the chainrings & bb would need to be replaced soon.

I've got a 9spd DA setup on my steel bike and it's worked out awesome the past decade. I still ride on it. Spring for it if everything is still in working order. BB replacement is cheap if you need it.
