Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Ridley's Comfort Frame

Hey Folks,
Would anyone know which Ridley model is considered their comfort frame, comparable to the CR1, Roubaix, Pilot, C2C etc.?

Thank you,
Mike

They don't "do" comfort frames.

The closest thing they have is the Excalibur - geometry is race/aggressive, but it is designed to be a slightly softer/less jarring ride.

I've owned an Excalibur....it's jarring. Its ride does not qualify as soft...IMO.

Heh, funny you say that. I have a Damocles and an Excalibur - they are in different locations; the Damocles fits me perfectly and so I got the Excal - which has the same geo - for the other domicile, where the roads are pretty poor chip-sealed excuses for tarmac.

It still feels quite rough - not having any other CF bikes for reference and since I cannot directly compare the 2 bikes on the same roads, I always sort of assumed that the Damocles would be even more of a jackhammer.

Maybe an RS in a few years.

I have an Excalibur now and would say that it's one of the smoother bikes I've ridden. It's still a race bike, so it's not built to be soft. But I have done a lot of 4 hour rides on it in the dead of winter and wasn't tired due to the frame's ride.

Ridley's head tubes are a bit longer than many of the race/pro geometry bikes out there. They may not be as tall and relaxed as the 'comfort' road bikes, though.
