would this road bike fir me ok?
Hi all!!
top forum
Iam just wondering if you can help. Iam looking at getting my first road bike just for general riding, no racing
and the odd charity event.
A freind of a freind has near new 2009 Giant Defy 1 hes will to sell to me for half price. The only thing is i went to shops and they recommended me to get a size medium , but this bike is a large size(55cm
which has 57.5cm top tube)
Iam 5'9" with 32cm inseam and i did the test where you spread your arms and measure that against yur height and my arm span is about 3cm more than my height.
In order to ride it i had to lower the seat about an inch and a hlaf from initial position so now the saddle and handlebars are at same level.
Would this bike be ok for the average non race rider or should i look at a smaller size bike?
any input appreciated

this is the bike. I dropped the seat almost 1.5cm from the position its in this picture to reach pedals properly. We had already dropped it 1.5cm from inital riders position before this photo was taken too

It looks a little big. Unless you're flexible, you're probably having to reach for the bars, which is going to put more weight on your arms and hands. It may be fine for a few miles, but it would become uncomfortable after while.

An internet fitting is hit and miss. And a forum of judges with nary a sight of you on the bike is not going to work out...the closest approximation, perhaps. But in the end, you need to be comfortable on that bike and you need to ride more to determine that.
