Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

IT IS SUNTOUR!

for anyone who cant decide on whether to go with sram or shimano i have an idea.

instead of spending hours getting other peoples opinions on their own comfort level and personal

likes, just go to a bike shop and test ride bikes with sram and shimano.

here is a quick lesson: 105(really good), ultegra (great), dura ace(best) vs. rival(really good), force(great), red(best).

none of them are crap or even moderate.

test ride and choose what you like best.

ps- just go with Suntour Cyclone Mark II= best ever

I went back and forth, but as soon as I actually tried the SRAM, I knew I had to stay with Shimano.

I'm just the opposite, bought a bike with Shimano, changed it to SRAM within two weeks. Nothing wrong with Shimano, the hoods just don't feel right to me. With that said, Campy is still my favorite. Hopefully I will change my opinion once I get a little more used to SRAM.

Uhh, Rival does not equal 105 in any way.. it's on par with or slightly better than Ultegra.

105 (good), Ultegra (great), D/A (Best), Rival (great), Force (really great), Red (best)

I would put 6700 better than Rival with no reservations but it was definitely better than 6600 and 105 (last generation) IMO. Force is definitely better than all 3 but I was committed to 6700 and kept it.

Now that I wrecked my '09 CAAD9 last Sunday and I'm getting my replacement 2010 tomorrow (not so happy about Tiagra but it's on sale and uber cheap), I'm looking hard at that Force setup - mostly because of the BB30 crankset. I'm looking at a new left shifter, front plate for the right, new crank, new FD (I kicked and bent it as I tumbled) and the money required for those minus what I can get for the right shifter, RD, 300 mile cassette and chain makes the switch really appealing.

Groups are a personal thing. I have larger hands and never found Campy comfortable but love the 6700 and SRAM hoods. Ultimately, all will shift gears and get you where you go so the choice should mostly come based on budget, weight, and comfort. For me, the first and last are my concerns but it just so happens that SRAM is really good with the second as well.
