Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

New road bike possibilities..

As I was going to shops in Pittsburgh today passing out papers about my stolen bike, I first went to this shop my friend recommended me to the day my bike got stolen. It was the first shop I went to today, and undoubtedly my favorite. I talked to the owner and he was really cool, he game me names of people within the area where my bike was robbed that could possibly find it because that area is rich with pro-am cyclists and gave me hope. The others were prety much "That sucks, but we'll put up the info" or "You're screwed.. You'll never see it again." The later comment was by a shop I'll never go to again, even though he was sincere and realistic. ANYWAYS, the guy from the first shop had 3-4 bikes that I could ride. I'm 5'3", so it's hard for a good fit for me. But the bikes were..

Pinarello FP2 size 44cm with Sram Rival @ $2200 (without the closeout price)
Scott Addict R2 size XS with Shimano Ultegra @ $3250 (without the closeout price)
Cervelo S2 size 49 with Shimano Ultegra @ $3900 ($3000 at closeout price)

I didn't ride anything today because I wasn't dressed nor did I have my shoes today. I also ran into a 2010 Fuji SL1 (I think that's hat it was) at Performance for around $2500 (with SRAM, I think) with the cool color scheme of the Fuji Servetto Blue (Even though the Footon Servetto gold bikes are even sweeter)

Once I get everything taken care with the insurance, I'll be going again to look at all of these bikes and riding. My Q for you all is which would you all buy regardless of fit?

I'm very happy with my S2. I love the aero frame. Mine is a 48, the only real issue there is toe overlap and bottle cage difficulties.

The 3 bikes you mentioned....the FP2 is significantly cheaper...but in my opinion is the sexiest. Although looks is one of many aspects to a bike, I wouldn't choose until I've ridden all 3.

If price wasn't an issue, I'd lean towards the Scott. They've done some amazing things with their IMP processes and their workmanship is pretty much second to none. That and Cav won 5 stages this year on an Addict
I'm also partial to the FP2, since I've always had my eye on one as its in my budget range...but if insurance is paying, I'd skip the FP2 and maybe step up to an FP3 or Dogma.

I bought my Scott Addict R3 at the shop you mentioned (the only shop in Western PA which carries the brands you mentioned above), and couldn't be happier. They are great, and have really helped me with my bikes esp. in terms of fit. I guess with those prices, the S2 would be pretty cool though, but, again, have absolutely zero complaints or concerns about my Addict. I'd take any of those 3 over a Fuji, and I think I'd just ride them all to decide, and decide what you want to spend. You also have to decide if you like the Rival Gruppo over Shimano. I have to say the 105 gruppo is more than enough for me, but I'm just getting started riding. . .

Yeah silver, it was Big Bang. I was recommended by a friend of mine that works at UPMC. Now it'll be my "not so local* bike shop of choice. My experience there was really awesome and I will be back to grab a bike.

In order:

Scott
Cervelo
Pinarello
Fuji

(IMO)

But let your body decide.
Ride them all.
Prices and components should always be secondary to fit.
Good luck.

And Go Mountaineers!

I'm re-reading... 44cm seems small even for 5'3"! Also, I paid $3800 for my S2/Ultegra, so that's certainly a great deal. I think the Scott and Cervelo frame differences are worth consideration... an XS Scott Addict felt totally different from the comparable size Cervelo S2. I did like the Scott quite a bit when I rode it, however. The aero frame/tri capability was really important to me in the end though.

The Pinarello is 44 with sloping geometry so it's like a 49, I believe. and I'm not really into the whole triathlon vibe. I might do a legged tri, as I would be doing the bike leg and others would be doing the swim and run legs.

I think I'm going towards the Scott Addict R2 because I'm not going to be a racer. But I think it's the best bang for the buck with ultegra and a great wheelset. Or would the FP2 be better for the rider who is more of an endurance/performance rider due to the Addict's race pedigree? Also, would the addict be a good climber because of all the cat 5 to cat 2 hills all around here?

The FP2 is an Asian built entry level aluminum bike (about the same level as a $600. range Trek 1.1 or a Specialized Allez).

The Scott is undeniably the best frameset of all the bikes you're looking at AND it comes Ultegra equipped? AND it's Carbon?

"If" it fits you, I'd jump on that Scott. But that's just me.

I would take the Fuji SL1 over the others. I had two of the original SL1's and they were the best bikes (besides my ti IF) that I have ever owned. The geometry is awesome, they look amazing, have a great warranty and amazing customer service. On top of that the one you are looking at comes with SRAM. In my opinion Fuji (and Giant) are the best bang for the buck companies out there.

You can actually see both of my old SL1's by clicking the links in my signature. I've been too lazy to update it since I sold all of them.

Really? Well alright...that might change things (although it'd still have to be a hell of a bike to beat an Addict).

Personally, I love Pinarellos.

3 points...

1. He says the price before the "closeout" is $2200. (which coincidentally is the MSRP for the 2009 aluminum version).
2. It's a closeout...more likely that it's a 2009? [aluminum?]
3. 2010 FP2's MSRP at $2,600.

Eddie is it an '09 or '10?

(just checked out the '10 FP2...gorgeous)

They have a 2010 FP2 at $2200?

Damn...I feel sorry for you!

LOL!

How do you decide?

I'd still take the Scott though.

Yeah, it's a 2010 at $2200 before the clearance break.

I still might take the Scott, even though I hate HTC-Columbia. That to me is a GIANT factor of me buying that bike. It's like I F'ing hate Cavendish and the other idiots of HTC, how am I to ride this bike with a clear conscience? As for the Pinarello, I have an old Banesto replica jersey that Indurain used during the Tour De France's.. It's a really hard decision!!!

Another thing is I'm a Campy man, I'm not sure how i could ride with Shimano or SRAM, even though I've been thinking about the switch.

Well then, it all comes down to "ride".

Which one puts a bigger smile on your mug?
