Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The 2005 Trek 1000. It's so beautiful. That orange color, I love it. Can't wait to start riding

Nice bike....enjoy.

Question - how come your bike doesn't have any valve stems? Does it not use tubes?

Im sure when trek edited the image to remove the background they might have taken the valves off as well.

Nice bike BTW.

No way! You mean they didn't shoot the bike on a white cyc?

It's got shadows. I think the valve stems are shy. The front is behind the fork and the back one is behind the . . . whatever they are caled. Stays?

Nice ride (re: Trek 1000)! I've had my Trek 1100 for over 12 years now and it is still in great shape. You'll find it's a terrific bicycle.

Nice. I went into the bike shop thinking I was going to be buying a Trek 1000 but I walked out with my Allez Sport.

Yeah pretty much the colors are what made my final decision so easy. I had tried out a 2004 Trek 1000 along with a Giant OCR3, Specialized (not sure of model), and a Giant TCR (Just for kicks) and I really liked the feel of the 1000. It's quite a step up for me from my department store mountain bike. Thanks for the encouragement and kind words.

I think Trek has a great lineup all around. When I was buying my Trek, I had a chance to look at their line, all the way from the $579 Trek 1000 up to the $3,4,5k carbon stuff. There's just something for everyone at every pricepoint. Even the relatively more affordable stuff like the 1000 look really solid, w/the same proven geometry of their more expensive stuff (fit is everything), and some reliable (even if not all exotic) brand-name components. The 1000 even comes with a carbon fork, which is pretty sweet.

Your bike is soooooo much better than any dept. store bike. Alot of people don't realize how much better a $4-600 bikeshop bike is compared to a $150-300 department store bike. Excellent choice.

I took it for my first ride this weekend. I picked it up on Friday and I was so jacked up to ride it. Man what a nice ride. Unbelievable difference from my previous ride.

you don't pay attention much, huh? There's only one valve "stem" now and it's in the bar-end. You just pump and it distributes the air thru out the entire bike, down the tubes, thru the hubs, up the spokes and into the tubes. In addition to making it easier to fill both tires, the added air pressure within the bike adds strength and reduces vibration, but adds no weight.

Come on 55-11/Rad, keep up with the game.

damn, that's not a bad idea. too bad i'm too lazy to do anything with it. but, for being the first person to say it's a good idea, doesn't that entitle me to some royalties? think about it.

It doesn't seem feasible to me. How would the air get to the spokes without there being a major leak in the hubs? If you seal off the hub, the wheel will no longer roll.

If it can be done, you do deserve some credit for the initial idea. Good thing this board has date and time stamps. If a patent ever comes out on this, you have proof of the idea on a certain date and time.

I also just ordered my 2005 1000. I just had to stay away from the orange. YIKES! Look at me! I just went with the chrome and silver because it is much more understated, and it matches my silver helmet. I am looking forward to lots of nice rides with this one in the future.

Not bad. I got mine for $495.00. I couldn't pass it up. And I don't know if you've seen it in person but the orange is really nice. I like that it stands out.

No, I haven't seen the orange in person, but I just didn't like it. I usually like the screaming colors (you should see some of the things I wear when I golf) but that may be because I am much better at golf and more confident so I can call attention to myself, and I am just getting into biking. How did you get yours for $495? That is a great deal!

The shadows are fake under the wheels, notice no other shadows and the ones there don't make much sense. As for air to wheel through hubs, Hummers or Humvees us do it so you can adjust your air pressure for different conditions. Actually I believe that DUCK boats from WWII actually have the same system. Slows down quick tire change though.

A co-worker's cousin owns a bike shop and he told me he could hook me up. He sure did. So my first experience riding and purchasing a road bike have been fantastic.
