Good replacement for R-500 wheelset

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Good replacement for R-500 wheelset

My wife just started asking me what I would like for Christmas this year and I was thinking of asking for some new wheels. Is there a decent wheelset that would be a good replacement for my R-500s?

Uhm, I like the bontrager select, x lite they came with fair price tag, also like mavic askium, campagnolo vento, shamal, scirocco (probably too much), mavic krystium or zipp 101 if you have deep pocket. those are for climbing and training, pretty good on riding. I used to use bontrager select, but well just change in older cosmic expert so it is your choice. Your wife will be preciate if you choose bontrager select or shimano wheel, I think 200$?

I was thinking I would try to keep in under $500, but that doesn't mean I have to top out at that. I had seen a few sets of Easton EA90s up on a few sites but I'm not that familiar with them.

To get some meaningful answers you really need to tell more details. Your weight, type of rides your do, surfaces you ride, tires used, anything you like or dislike about your R500s, etc.

I had the r500s, got a set of Zipp Team wheels and like them a lot, and now also have a set of Easton EA70s that are awesome.

The zipps and the eastons kick the shimano's butt. So much smoother and so much lighter.

165lbs, recreational/fitness rides, paved rural roads, Continental Ultra Sports. I was just basically wanting to get a new wheelset for something lighter and smoother so I figured I'd ask around.

I will probably upgrade my RoL Volants next year myself. At 188lbs the 20 spoke front just flexes a bit too much. Looking at Mavic Ksyrium Elites at around $650, Reynolds Solitude, Easton EA70 or SRAM S27 for $500. You could nearly shave a pound with any of those wheels. Those Shimano's are right at 2k grams with skewers. May look into Psimet's custom builts also. I just don't have the funds at the moment and hate to take his time up asking questions/quotes if I'm not ready to order.

I've heard some good things about the Williams System 30 - https://www.williamscycling.com/sys30/sys30.html ... seems like a lot of bang for the buck.

Performance bike has ksyrium elites on sale for $420. I bought a set last week to replace my R-500s and love them.

Seriously - for $500, go with Psimet. You wont get anything better. End of thread.
